Jarrod Lawson [2017] - Footseps In The Dark [Live @ City Winery, Atlanta 30 Aug 2017]

Here's a 'teaser' for my next big post.  I'm working on collecting as many live performances of 'as yet' unreleased songs from one the the best new artists to emerge in the last 10 years, Jarrod Lawson along with his singing partner Tahirah Memory.  'All The Time' released on Tahira Memory's debut album Pride in 2015 is still one of my favourite songs of the last 5 years.

To give you a flavour here's Jarrod Lawson live at the City Winery in Atlanta 30 Aug 2017  performing The Isley Brothers - Footsteps In The Dark.

Maxwell [1996] - Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder) [Columbia]

Debut single from debut album Urban Hang Suite from 1996 and hard to believe that this masterpiece is nearly 25 years old and still sounds fresh.  An album you can just leave on and play on repeat.  My copy is well worn!

Maxwell [1996] - Ascension (No One's Ever Gonna Love You, So Don't Ever Wonder) (The Tribute Uncut) [Columbia]

Here's the remix which samples S.O.S. Band - No One's Gonna Love You.

Chance Hayden [2018] - Someday We'll All Be Free (feat. Jarrod Lawson) [Atlanta]

In these times of coronavirus lockdown here's a song of hope.  A superb cover of the Donny Hathaway's 1973 classic performed by Chance Hayden (guitar) and the class act Jarrod Lawson.  It is taken from Chance Hayden's 2018 album Get Somethin' available on BandCamp.  Chance Hayden played guitar of Lawson's 'Live At The BBC' EP on Dome in 2014.

I've taken the opportunity of posting several other versions including Hathaway's original and a live version by Stevie Wonder, along with 'the governor' Bobby Womack, American Idol winner Ruben Studdard, Harvey Mason, Park Place Feat. Donnie Williams, a live version by Jennifer Hudson @ The Whitehouse, a short clip of Teena Marie live in San Diego, Corrine Bailey Rae & Jon Batiste and Alicia Keys.

... and the original.

A Paul Tillman Smith project who has already been featured on this blog.

Stevie Wonder [2016] - Someday We'll All Be Free
Live St Paul, MN 13 Oct 2016

Harvey Mason [1982] - Someday We'll All Be Free [Alfa ALR-28039]

From 1982 album Stone Mason which appears to have been only released in Japan. This track features vocals of Stephanie Spruill who released 2 good 45s with Roger Sainte as Suff 'n' Ramjett in 1975 (which I'll feature in another post) and then went on to form Saint & Stephanie releasing an album and 4 45s in 1979 on Arista which were sadly very disco oriented.

Bobby Womack [1985] - Someday We'll All Be Free [Beverly Glen BG0006]

Title track of his Beverly Glen album from 1985.

Ruben Studdard [2009] - Someday We'll All Be Free [Hickory HR301005]

A nice modern version by 2003 American Idol winner from Love Is album.

Jennifer Hudson [2009] - Someday We'll All Be Free [Live @ The Whitehouse 2014]

Teena Marie [1980] - Someday We'll All Be Free [Live @ San Diego 1980]

Corrine Bailey Rae & Jon Batiste [2019] - Someday We'll All Be Free

An unrehearsed impromptu live performance at The Steinway Hall, New York in 2019.

Alicia Keys [2002] - Someday We'll All Be Free

Commentary

ITincreased new cases and deaths, active cases reducing slowly for 9 days

ES - reduced new cases and deaths, active cases have reduced each day for 7 days

DE - increased new cases and deaths but active cases continue to reduce.

FR - increased new cases - reduced deaths, active cases levelling off for 10 days around 95,000

UK - reduced new cases - increased deaths
As predicted a few days ago UK now has more cases than Germany as their cases reduce and UK continues to have around 4,000 or more per day

Latest testing figures (source DHSCgovuk) show less than half the 100,000 target (45,563) is being met with less than 30,000 people being tested i.e. over half the people tested (29,571) being tested twice.

US - increased new cases and deaths, active cases continue to increase and show no signs of slowing down. Deaths over 2,000 at their 5th highest level.  A sobering fact is that more US citizens have now died from COVID-19 than died in the Vietnam war.
