In no particular order other than tempo. 

A massive week of releases this week and I managed to trawl through just over 200 pages of Amazon new releases on Friday alone (approx. 3,200 listings many of them albums/EPs), that's quite a bit more than usual. So you can imagine, for every track that gets posted, thousands are left behind and then trying to boil them down to just twelve each week is no mean feat.

The dozen is extended to fifteen this week because Juanita Wynn, which was posted weeks ago from promo and then Bandcamp, got a release on all major DSPs. Also, Snoop Dogg missed the cut last week as it wasn't until Roger Williams made me aware of it a week after release that it was posted so missed last week's cut but has been the SoulStrutter Selection of the Week last week.

The last few SoulStrutter Selections of the Week have been albums (Blue Soul Ten, Mica Millar, Tyra LeVone and Snoop Dogg) but no albums of any significance were released this week so it will be a single or album/EP track and the one I keep returning to is The R&R Soul Orchestra with "Moods". Junita Wynn and Snoop Dogg have already been featured in previous weeks.

Love Unlimited Orchestra [2022] - Midnight And You Keep the Funk Alive (Shaun G Mix) [Self Released]

I've just received this from Shaun G "Midnight And You Keep the Funk Alive (Shaun G Mix)" It's a mix/mashup of The Love Unlimited Orchestra's "Midnight And You" which I'm told has been played on Jazz FM radio by Robbie Vincent last Sunday and is gaining momentum.

The song was written by Gene and Billy Page and included on Barry White's / The Love Unlimited Orchestra's "Rhapsody In White" in 1974.

A vocal version was recorded by Odyssey Group earlier in 1972 on their own Jamaican Media label. It was included on a 2015 compilation "Praise Poems, Vol. 2" by Tramp Records.

Ross Fitz [2022] - Love Stormy Weather [Hot Digits #HOTDIGITMAXI008]

Posting the latest Izipho Soul release yesterday reminded me of a track I was alerted to a few weeks back by Ross Fitz, "Love Stormy Weather", which samples Melvin Brown & James Matthews' "Love Stormy Weather" from 1976 (which was the first 'official' Izipho Soul 7" release in 2017) and was released on 13 Jun 2020 as part of 30 track compilation "Hot Digits:Year Eight" which, at present, is available only on Traxsource.  

The same compilation also has a track by J.B. Sugar ,"Black Sugar", which samples Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes Feat. Sharon Paige "Tonight's The Night" from the "Blue Album" 1979, the same one that had "Prayin'", post Teddy P.

In the main the album is disco fodder but another track by Old Chap "The Best In Me" I'm sure is sampling something. The voice and song is familiar and I think it could be Marlena Shaw" You Bring Out The Best In Me" from her 1978 album "Acting Up" but speeded up.

I'm sure there are other tracks sampled but these, for me, are the best of the compilation.

Paulyae [2022] - The Feeling [Self Released] (Full Album)

Paulyae (Dawkins) is a new artist from Arlington, TX, (now living in Grand Prairie) who debuted last year with "Be Free" (Oct 2021) followed by a Christmas single "Are You With Me (This Christmas)?" (Nov 2021) and a third single "This Time" (Jan 2022).

Since then she's released a further two singles  ("No More" (Feb) and "Bounce Back" (Apr)) and yesterday (2 Jul 2022) she launched her debut album "The Feeling" which includes all her (four) singles to date excluding the Christmas single.

I think the standout track is still "This Time" (which featured in The Dirty Dozen 2022 Week 01) with many tracks having more R&B vibes.

Ensley Jade [2022] - Playground [360 West Studios]

Ensley Jade (Courtney Moriah Warren) is a new artist from Nashville, TN, who was first featured in May with her third single (all self-written and all released this year), "Protect My Energy".

Her fourth single is "Playground" released today (3 Jul 2022).

Savannah Cristina [2022] - Confidence [Self Released]

Florida's Savannah Cristina Ashton first appeared on these pages for her album "Self Care" from Oct 2020 (which was her third album) and more recently with her last single "Bad Bitch Energy" in May 2022.

Her first single since then is "Confidence" (released on 30 Jun 2022) which is edgy, R&B flavoured, neo soul.

Lady Harmony [2022] - I Ain’t Going Down [Self Released]

LeNaSa 'Lady Harmony' Scott (formerly known as LeNaSa) is from San Diego, CA, and has sung background vocals for Mary Griffin (who's latest single released on (17 Jun) is  a cover of Aretha's "Angel") and toured with Rome on the Rome around the World Tour which presented opportunities to open for artist such as Kenny Lattimore and Chante Moore, Mel Waiters, The Dells, Tyrone Davis, Nancy Wilson and many more.

Her first album was "I Owe It All To You" (2005) followed by "Caged Bird... Flying" (2010) and she is currently working on a third album due in summer 2022.

In 2021 she changed her stage name to Lady Harmony and released her first single under that name "Thank You". Since then she released another single in 2021 and today (3 Jul 2022) her third of 2022 "I Ain't Going Down", all self-written songs.

Cherisse Scott [2022] - Who I Am [Self Released] (Full EP)

Cherisse Scott is a singer, songwriter, actress, activist and poet from Chicago (now living in Memphis, TN) whose music transcends genres spanning from R&B to Gospel to Opera and Jazz.

She independently released two albums "Moans" (2003) and "Soul Journey" (2008) and has shared the stage with acts such as  The Roots, Erykah Badu, Kim Burrell, India.Arie, Gordon Chambers, Mary Mary, Eric Roberson and El Debarge.

Today (3 Jul 2022) she has released her third project "Who Am I" which consists of five tracks and a bonus live track, so I would call it an EP rather than a full album. All the songs are self-written with classy and sultry jazz undertones.

On "I Don't Know" I think she sounds remarkably similar in style to Michon Young.
