My selection of the best releases this week (Feb 2022 Wk 05)
In no particular order other than tempo.
Well after a drought since before the festive period and the
floodgates opening last week the drought seems to have returned with
very little of any consequence being released before Friday with not as
many releases as usual on Friday and even fewer that stood out.
However, there's always a few diamonds in the rough but you do have to
dig deep for them. Possibly the find of the week is an album, which
appears to be a debut, from Daniel Leon (discovered by
D-Mac and given the nod to me by Franklin Sinclair on Friday) which has two
killer cuts, both included in the dozen. However, apart from one other
track, there is not much else on the album for soul lovers. Another
predominantly pop album from Ricky Duran turned up two
good tracks.
The Ty Juan album was released on 26 Jan which I slept
on until Tuesday. Many have picked up on "Good Love" but the killer
track for me is the deep ballad featuring Keni Myles "When & If" and that is the track I'm choosing as
SoulStrutter Selection of the Week.
A new artist well worth looking out for is
Kinzoogianna (aka Anna Stubbs) who released a debut
single on Friday and has another due on 4 Mar from a forthcoming debut
album.
A 'certainty' for the dozen this week would have been at least one track from the Ivy Lo "A Love Ride" EP but oddly it seems to have now been withdrawn, but will include in the usual weekly mix on Mixcloud to follow as it was received on promo.
