Michon Young [2023] #mysweetness [Self Released] (Full Album)

Hot on the heels of the lead single "Sweetness" (released on 14 Apr '23) Michon Young follows up last year's album "Love Life Experience Volume 3 Conversation Piece", with a new album "#mysweetness" which drops on Friday (28 Apr '23).

From the eight tracks, along with the single, the tracks pricking up the ears of this listener are "Just Like That", "Midday Thinking" and "You Are".

The whole album is a mellow affair and a lot shorter than "Conversation Piece" which had  18 tracks and was quite hard going trying to pick out the 'juicy ones'.

Dojo Cuts [2023] - Ain't Got No Reason / Uptight [Last Bastion Records #LB 04]

The fourth release on Andy Bellwood's Last Bastion Records pairs a couple of sides by Aussie band Dojo Cuts from Sydney who feature vocalist Roxie Ray (aka Sasha Imrich).

The first is a 2020 digital only single, the atmospheric and haunting "Ain't Got No Reason" which wouldn't be out of place in the movie Pulp Fiction! 

The flip is from their debut eponymous Record Kicks album from 2009 and is a take on Stevie's 1966 Motown/Northern Soul stormer "Uptight" but not as you would know it as it's in more of a 60s garage style. 

The label bowed in with the 2005 version of Lou Pride's Northern Soul monster "I'm Com'un Home In The Morn'un" with the full album version and a shorter edit. Suemi 1970 originals are still as rare as the proverbial hen's teeth.

Dojo cuts were formed in 2008 and have, to date, released three albums, the first two for Record Kicks (which now sell for quite big bucks on vinyl) and the third self-released. In addition they have released a dozen or more singles including a few for Colemine. Daptone maestro Gabriel Roth is a fan of the band and wrote the liner notes for their first album.

So, "Uptight" is only available on vinyl via their expensive debut album and "Ain't Got No Reason" has never been issued on vinyl until now, so you can snare the pair on limited edition 7" vinyl from Last Bastion via Detour Records where they are available now.

Full Flava feat. Beverlei Brown [2023] - Love Holds No Limit [Dome]

Curiously we had this track from Full Flava feat. Beverlei Brown set aside for the next instalment of our 21st Century Soul series as it was originally released in 2003 on "Colour My Soul" (no single release at the time as far as we are aware).

Dome has released two versions on 7 Apr '23 as a double single. The first is the Full Flava 2.0 Mix and the other is the Nigel Lowis Take It To The Limit Mix which takes the pace up. We may as well throw in the original mix for comparison.

Full Flava is actually UK producer Rob Derbyshire.

Cornell C.C Carter [2023] - It's So Nice (KZO Mix) [Self Released] PROMO

The first original material from Cornell C.C. Carter since his acclaimed chart topping album "Next Life"  in Oct '21 (there was a remix of "The Moment" in Feb '22) is "It's So Nice". 

It's the first track from a new album coming in Autumn which we believe is to be called "Let It Go" and there will be a selection of cuts released prior to the album release.

It's due out on Friday (28 Apr '23) and Cornell is currently in the UK to promote it and perform some dates.

At the time of the release of "Next Life" Cornell was interviewed on UK radio by Gary Van Den Bussche.

Output / Input feat. Antonio McLendon [2023] - Smilin' Faces [Self Released] PROMO

The debut album "Forward Motion" from Output / Input is due later this year but in the meantime their latest single "Smilin' Faces" is out on Friday (28 Apr '23) featuring in-demand vocalist Antonio McLendon who sang on their recent single "I'm In Love" last Jun.

Output / Input formed during Covid lockdown out of a collective of session musicans by Chaka Khan's musical director Melvin Lee Davis and have grown from strength to strength. This will be their 16th single since 2020. No doubt a few of the singles at least will feature on the album.
