Mychelle [2022] - Tightrope [FAMMI]

Mychelle (Scott) (pronounced my chelle) from Hackney, London, was spotted by actor Idris Elba busking in London who invited her to work on his Yardie mixtape for his debut movie as director. She released her debut EP "Closure" in May '21, two of the tracks were released as singles earlier 'Closure' and 'The Way'. 

She followed it this May with "Someone Who Knows" which on Bandcamp combined all the tracks from "Closure" which contained the excellent "Forbidden Fruit" which was a single in Apr.

Her first release since then is a single "Tightrope" released today (2 Nov 2022) which I think is another winner.

Aron [2022] - The Seed [Hodek Brothers Productions] (Full EP)

Aron is 11 year old bass player Áron Hodek from Slovakia, better known as AronTheBassist. He released a debut single "Never Give Up" last year featuring Doobie Powell which also features on his debut EP "The Seed" released on 1 Nov 2022.

Also included on the EP is his second, and most recent (25 Oct), single "I Got Me In My Feelings" featuring Jay Strong and Keyon Harrold. The standout from the new songs is "Soul Caliber" featuring Devin Morrison and Quintin Gulledge.

He is also featured on Candy Dulfer's new album "We Never Stop" released last Friday on  the track "Perspective".

Hailed as one of the most talented bass players the world has ever known,  he’s also been writing and producing music for other artists under the nickname of AronTheBassist since 2018 when he was only 8 years old! He rose to fame posting videos on  YouTube, Tik Tik and Instagram where combined he has almost 1m followers.

Eric Nolan & Walter Williams Sr. [2022] - Give Her Your Love (Radio Edit) [Boy Wonder Records] NEW VIDEO

Eric Nolan and Walter Williams Sr. are two thirds of the current O'Jays line up who 'desert' Eddie Levert for a new single "Give Her Your Love" which was released back on 27 May. Today a video for it has appeared on the label's YouTube channel reminding us of one that got away as this is a nice little stepper which didn't seem to get much action in the summer.

Whilst it was released in 27 May, Eric Nolan released it on his 2014 "Mood Swing" album, which incidentally has a version of Anita Baker's "You Bring Me Joy" on it.

Walter Williams Sr. is an original member of The O'Jays formed in 1958 along with Eddie Levert, Bill Massey, Bill Isles and William Powell. By the 70s, and their Philly International / Gamble & Huff period, they were reduced to a trio after Massey and Isles left. Massey died in 1977 and was replaced by Sammy Strain of  Little Anthony & The Imperials who in turn was replaced by Nathaniel Best  in 1992 who Eric Nolan Grant then replaced later in the 90s.

Acantha Lang [2022] - Carry the Weight [Self Released]

I had the pleasure of seeing Acantha Lang perform supporting Mica Millar at her album launch party in September and both were excellent live.

Acantha has a new single "Carry The Weight" out today (2 Nov 2022). It's straight outta Memphis with southern style organ and horns. I don't think it will be long before we see her debut album as she hinted at it in her performance.

The lady is originally from New Orleans and moved to New York to headline her own blues show at the Grill in  in Harlem before moving to London after three years there.

She released her debut single "He Said / She Said" in October 2020 and to date this is her sixth single along with a five track EP "Sugar Woman". All except the first single have been posted here since coming across her second single "Lois Lang".

In addition to her recorded material she is regularly posting live videos of cover songs which she calls "Standing On The Shoulder of ...Soul Legends" on her YouTube channel (which she started during Covid lockdown and has continued) and performing live. It is only a matter of time before she becomes a big name.

Hil St. Soul [2022] - A Feeling So Beautiful (Nigel Lowis Mix) [Shanachie]

The latest single from Hil St. Soul is a song "A Feeling So Beautiful", written by Hilary Mwelwa and Reggie Myrix released on 26 Aug 2022.  Nigel Lowis has just applied a new mix to give it a different feel and a new lease of life.

Hil St. Soul will release "Back To Love", first new album in a decade, on 18 Nov 2022. It features two duets with Noel Gourdin along with a few recent singles including her version of Ohio Players "Heaven Must Be Like This"

Hil St. Soul began as a duo of Hilary Mwelwa and producer Victor Redwood-Sawyer in 1999 and broke through with an acoustic version of the Stevie Wonder song which was a hit for Aretha Franklin "Until You Come Back To Me". Hilary came to London from Lusaka (Zambia) at a young age. Their debut album "Soul Organic" was reissued by Dome in 2019 to celebrate it's 20th anniversary.
