Queen Dies! 8 Sep 2022

A real shocker ... the Queen of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth realms has died aged 96 only days after swearing in Liz Truss as Prime Minister on Tuesday and 17 months after her husband Prince Philip died on 9 Apr 2021.

She is the longest serving monarch in history and celebrated 70 years on the throne this summer. Most of us have never known another monarch. There will be a state funeral held, the last one held was for Winston Churchill in 1965.

Tristan [2022] - Something Like This [Isolde Records]

A new single "Something Like This" from Tristan's upcoming seventh album "SEVEN" due on 3 Mar 2023 will be released next Friday (16 Sep 2020)

They tell us that  "The song is a gentle mixture of The Jackson Five and Earth Wind & Fire, which brings you back to that wonderful early era of Funk and Soul, though with a touch of 2022 in production and sound. Something Like This comes with a nice uplifting, energetic, positive, & danceable vibe"

... and go on to say about the meaning of the song  "We all can be a bit jealous sometimes, when it appears someone else 'has it all' right? But in the end we all are in 'pursuit of happiness', so why can't we all have  "Something Like This"?"

Tristan will be touring Europe this Autumn and in Spring 2023 with dates in The Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Belgium and UK to promote the album.

Gabriels [2022] - Angels & Queens [Atlas Artists]

We were first introduced to Gabriels back in January 2021 with their stomping "Love And Hate In A Different Time" from an EP of the same name released 4 Dec 2020. That track distinctly reminded me of elements of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine". It has been re-released and remixed multiple times since (many of them posted HERE). 

They have a new seven track EP/album "Angels & Queens - Part I" due at the end of the month (30 Sep 2022). Apart from one track "Blind" (which is on the EP mentioned above) it consists of all new material. The title track from it has been pre-released as a single yesterday (7 Sep 2022). 

Gabriels have their own distinctive and unique, gospel inspired, style and consist of lead singer Jacob Lusk (who appeared on American Idol season 10 in 2011) and producers Ari Balouzian and Ryan Hope. Formed in L.A. in 2016, they released their debut single 'Loyalty' in 2018 which was used in a Prada advert.

Eva Lazarus [2022] - Brandy Kisses [Melonskin Records] (Full Album)

The genre-bending, sophomore, album by Birmingham based, Bristol bred, artist Eva Lazurus, "Brandy Kisses", is released today (8 Aug 2022).

She had some recent success with "Royalty" released in June 2022. On her latest offering there is neo soul, jazz, R&B, Hip-Hop and hints of dub/reggae as well as pure pop so it's an eclectic mixed bag. 

The album includes all three of her singles released this year i.e. "Lessons" (27 Jul), "Royalty" (16 Jun) and "How Am I Looking?" (18 Feb) and it's certainly value for money as £7.99 buys you sixteen tracks.

On the first listen "Lioness" and "Lessons" (until the rap kicks in) are the ones that stands out for me  with "If You Ever Leave Your Girl" and "Secrets" pricking the ears. With sixteen tracks to digest I'm sure others will emerge with more listens

It's a fresh and adventurous set, albeit I think it may have been better as two eight track albums as there is a lot of disparate music to digest in one sitting. Perhaps the the old adage 'quality over quantity' applies?
