Ed Summers v Joe Anderson

Two records that have been huge on the modern soul scene for decades and use the same backing are Ed Summers - I Can Tell and Joe Anderson - You And I.

Ed Summers [1980] - I Can Tell [Soya SO 1001]

The only release for both artist and label.  SOYA - Sound Of Young America was an independent Detroit label.

The backing track is the same as Joe Anderson but the lyrics are different. The writing credits on this release credits D. Jordan and E. Jordan rather than Andrew Smith.  I presume Dave Jordan wrote the music and Andrew Smith must have written the lyrics for Joe Anderson, therefore assume that E. Jordan wrote the lyrics for Ed Summers song.

This was Ed Summers ony release but he went on to produce Hunts Determination in the late 70s.

Ed Summers [1980] - Prepare Yourself [Soya SO 1001]

No sound clip available.

Joe Anderson [1975] - You And I [Buddah BDA 480] - Short Version

Written by David Jordan and Andrew Smith who wrote some great songs in 70s for the likes of Millie Jackson, Joe Simon, Garland Green, Debbie Taylor, Al Downing and Gloria Gaynor among others.

Joe Anderson [1975] - You And I [Buddah BDA 480] - Long Version

Joe Anderson released another 2 45s on Buddah in 70s.  There is also a Joe Anderson who released 2 45s on Heidi in 1965. I'm not sure whether or not this is the same artist, but have included these 3 45s at the bottom of the post as they may be of interest to those who like Northern / R&B.

Anderson joined the band Eramus Hall (named after a building in Chicago by George Clinton) in the late 70s.

Joe Anderson [1974] - You Gotta Believe [Buddah BDA 436]

Joe Anderson [1974] - Sho' Nuff [Buddah BDA 436]

Joe Anderson [1975] - (Your Love) Give Me Fever [Buddah BDA 454]

Today is the first time I've heard of this guy.
I love his voice.
It's a shame he didn't do more recording but I imagine with a sound like a cross between the Isley's and Al Green they probably didn't think he would stand out enough to make an investment in him. It's really too bad.
As far as the Heidi label stuff. The voice is very different. I doubt that it's the same performer.
Thanks for posing his material all in one place. (: >
