AJ Wells [2024] - Interrupt [Self Released]

Adrian AJ Wells is an ordained minister from Nashville, TN, now living in Dallas. He released a debut EP "Set Aside" in 2021 and a debut album "God Sing" in 2022.

His second single of 2024 is "Interrupt" which is a timeless epic 6 minute soulful ballad stepper. It's definitely one or favourites of the week that, we think, has a bit of a Frankie Beverly & Maze vibe.

We also found the first live performance of the song for NPR Tiny Desk in Feb (below).

Dabeull & HolyBrune [2024] - Body Heat [Roche Musique]

You won't be surprised to learn that Dabeull (David Said) is a French funk producer and singer Holybrune (Laura Chaudet) is also French. 

Their new single "Body Heat" has a throwback 80s boogie funk sound and is the lead single from a new album "Analog Love" due on 12 Apr. In the trailer video for it below, Dabeull states that it has been recorded on the same analog mixing console used for Michael Jackson's Thriller album.

They featured here once before in May '21 with a cover of RAH Band's "Message From The Stars", which also included DJ/producer/musician Rude Jude (Julian Getreau) who co-wrote the new single with Dabeull & HolyBrune.

Jane Handcock [2024] - Southside Love [Death Row Records]

Since her album "World Of Women" in Jan '23, Oakland's Jane Hancock (Myariah Summers) has released four live singles and a song from the The Color Purple 2023 OST ("100"), so the new single "Southside Love" released today is the first original studio recording since. As with the album, it's released on Death Row Records now owned by Snoop Dogg since Feb '22.

After moving to Atlanta Jane  was mentored by Raphael Saadiq and released her second album 'Raphael Saadiq Presents Jane Handcock Truth Explains A Lot' in 2017 which followed up her debut 'Truth Be Told' in 2016. She's since released a further five albums and around a 18 singles and 5 EPs as well as writing material for many other artists.

Filah Lah Lah [2024] - PAST MYSELF [Sound African Recordings]

Filah Lah Lah is Reabetswe Fila Ranamane from Pretoria, SA, who emerged in 2019 with her first, jazzy/neo soul, single "Feels Like". She followed it with another single and then a debut 6 track EP "Filahsofy" in Aug 2020 and another "We're Gonna Be Just Fine" in Oct '21.

Her new single, "Past Myself" is her second this year after "Call Me" (9 Feb) and are her only recordings since the 2021 EP and are both from her debut full length album, "ON AIR", due on 16 Apr.

Juanita Wynn [2024] - Thank You [DCollective]

Grammy winning songwriter Juantita Wynn returns with a new single "Thank You" which was promo'ed on 29 Feb with an alternative short 2:08 version (included below) and now with the full length 4:00 version.

She has joined a collective of singers, songwriters and musicians under the banner DCollective led by songwriter/producer Darren Lightly. This is the first single.

Ms Wynn also contributed to Joe Leavy's "Soul On Fire" album last year co-writing and featuring on "Give It Right" and "Up A Notch" as well as releasing her own single "We Need This" in Sep.
