J. DAPHANEY [2022] - SUPALOVE [Self Released] (Full Album)

We last heard from J. DAPHANEY on 4 Jul with her single "SupaLove" which I believed was to be the title track from a forthcoming EP but she has actually released a full twelve track album on 29 Aug 2022.

J. DAPHANEY .(Joaquina Daphaney) was born and raised on the south side of Chicago to a family of singers native to Mississippi. In 2008 she was a backing singer for David Cassidy and performed with him on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

J. released her debut album "Love, Life & R&B" in 2018 and had a UK Soul Chart entry with "Love Star" in Feb 2021 (a new DJ Soulchild remix of which is included on the new album) and again in April 2021 with "Can't Wait 2 Luv U" and more recently in June this year with MS1 Project and "Set It Off".

In June she featured on a soulful house track with The Shamanic (Ralphi Rosario and Craig J Snider) on their single "Higher Ground". (video below).

On a very quick first play the stand outs are "Love Feeling" (which starts off as if it's a live recording and has a bit of an Al Wilson "Show And Tell" vibe about it) "Come Back" and "Celebrate", and if  you like a bit if funk "Winner" is reminiscent of Chaka's "Like Suga". I 'suspect' that many will go for the obvious i.e. the "Love Star (Soulchild Remix)".

R.J.'s Latest Arrival [1986] - Heaven In Your Arms [Manhattan #B-50040]

Each Monday Spotify presents a playlist called Discover Weekly which theoretically selects 30 tracks based upon your listening habits. This long time favourite appeared this week which you may or may not be familiar with.

It's by Detroit group R.J.'s Latest Arrival (name after founder R.J. Rice) with "Heaven In Your Arms" from their 1986 album "Hold On" and was also released as a single 7" and 12". The song was written by Garry Glenn and Dianne Quander who wrote for many artists including, most famously, Anita Baker's "Caught Up In The Rapture" the title track of her 1986 breakthrough album "Rapture" which followed "The Songstress" (1983).

Khruangbin v The Soul Surfers - Summer Madness

How appropriate for this summer, heatwaves, droughts, floods, and wildfires all occurring concurrently around the world... Summer Madness!

This track popped up whilst listening to the last post for The Ironsides. It's from Khruangbin off a Dec 2020 album "Night Time Tales: Khruangbin" and then immediately afterwards another cover of the Kool & The Gang song popped up by The Soul Surfers from Sep 2019! So, given we are approaching hump day and there is nothing much else around, why not?

The Ironsides [2022] - Changing Light / Sommer [Colemine #CLMN-176]

The Ironsides are from San Francisco and feature members of Monophonics. Colemine is releasing "Changing Light", described as a cinematic, orchestral track, along with "Sommer" on vinyl on 14 Oct 2022. The B side was released digitally over two yeas ago in Jun 2020 with the A side getting a digital release today (30 Aug 2022).

"Sommer" is a cover of an obscure 1972 song by Danish duo Stig & Steen (Steen Toft Andersen and Stig Kreutzfeldt) from their "Da Solen Kom" album.

Sara Lina Maida Neilsen is from Kolding, Denmark but is currently located in Melbourne Australia. She's released, what appears to be, her debut single "King Street Dancer" today (30 Aug 2022).

She states that her music fluidly mixes sounds inspired by future jazz and neo-soul.

This Monday's episode of  Soul & Jazz Flavas show from 'The Soul Master' Steve Aggasild on Soul Groove Radio 29th Aug 2022.

JChosen [2022] - What U Came 4 [Household Name Entertainment / Jodae Entertainment] PROMO

Not one to rest on his laurels Saint Jaimz presents JChosen (aka Joshua Hunter) who is a singer, songwriter, actor originally from Albany, GA, on a new single "What U Came 4". It's just one of three songs available on an EP "The Chosen One" due out on Friday (2 Sep 2022).

As a child he was bred on a diet of Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, & Marvin Gaye records played by his mother.

Standing at 6ft 6ins he was a collegiate basketball player until an injury ended his career. He switched to music and was selected as a contestant on the The Voice Season 12 in 2017 getting four chair turns, within 45 seconds, on his blind audition for his rendition of Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing". The video (included below) has currently almost 3m views and, by all accounts, is the most viewed video for the season's YouTube page (which I can't find). Since his appearance on the show he has opened shows for Hi-Five, MYA, TANK, and Jagged Edge.
