Ms.Tonya Chereese [2021] - Accept Me (For Who I Am) [Hooked up Records]

Ms.Tonya Chereese (aka Latinya C Hooker) is from Kansas City and is a relative of the late Johnnie Taylor and is mentored by his son T.J. Hooker-Taylor.

She co-wrote this deep soul song "Accept Me (For Who I Am)" with  Reuben (Rue) Davis, which was produced by T.J. Hooker-Taylor and originally released 1 Jun 2020.

It looks like it may be, either being reissued, or is on a forthcoming EP or album or possibly a southern soul compilation as it was played on Mark Merry's Soul Sermon on Sunday evening and he has listed it as forthcoming. A promo video was posted on 31 Aug 2021 and again on 2 Sep 2021 (Victor Jackson) so there is some sort of movement on it!

It's a deep soul cut in a similar style to Shirley Brown's classic "Woman To Woman" with the 'lady rap' telling it how it is!.

Louis TM [2021] - Never Give Up On Your Love / Mercedes Car [Diver #DIVR-0002]

Louis TM (Louis T. Munn) from Wellington, NZ has been playing keyboards backing other musicians until now and has decided to step into the spotlight on his own. 

He released his debut single "Mercedes Car" on 20 Aug 2021 and has now released another track "Never Give Up On Your Love" on 3 Sep 2021 which will be the flip side on a limited edition 7" single. I think the latest track is the better of the two.

Both sides have a retro sound and are also available digitally.

Ernest IV is Ernest Watkins from Atlanta, GA, who has released six singles and two EPs since 2020. "Nobody Else" (released 3 Sep 2021) is his third single this year along with the release of his second EP "Leave Me There..".

I guess you'd label this as lo-fi. It's set at a funeral pace, 35 bpm, so I don't know where Tunebat got 140 bpm from? It's hardly a dance record and probably the slowest tune I've ever posted but has a certain 'je ne sais quoi'.

KayJay [2021] - Hold On You [Divinyl Music]

UK session singer KayJay (aka Kate J Sutherland / Kate Barker) has a new single "Hold On You" due for release on 9 Sep 2021. It has a contemporary old school vibe (if that makes any sense) with elements of nu funk and acid jazz combined.

It is her second single following her 2019 hit "Natural High" (video below but there are several different mixes on her SoundCloud).

From 2016, until recently,  she has been part of Odyssey led by Steve Collazo, son of founding member Lillian Lopez.

She has appeared on albums and stages as backing vocalist for many well known artists such as Alexander O’Neal, Rose Royce, Jamiroquai, Lisa Stansfield, Shola Ama, Lemar, Martha Reeves, Jocelyn Brown, Gabriel, Leee John (Imagination), Loose Ends, Romina Johnson and many others.
