IYAMAH [2023] - Chasing Dreams [Self Released]

IYAMAH first featured here just over two years ago with her last album "Tough Love" in May '21. It was her third album in as many years ("The Truth EP. 2" (Oct '20) and "The Truth EP. 2" (Mar '19)). 

Since then she has released just one 5 track EP "Sometimes, I'm Speechless" in Dec '22. That is until Jun 23 when she released a single "Green Grass" with Kofi Stone which she now follows with "Chasing Dreams" last Friday.

IYAMAH is Brighton born, London based, Sophie Bond who debuted in 2018 with her first single 'Cryptic Love' and describes her music as 'rootsy soul'.  

Her latest single is from a forthcoming ten track album "In Two Words" due for release in Jan '24.

The Shindellas [2023] - Think Of Me [Weirdo Workshop]

The latest and fourth single pre-released from the forthcoming sophomore album, "Shindo", by The Shindellas is "Think Of Me" . It's a more mellow song to the previous upbeat three with Stacy Johnson taking lead vocals. Thus far, no glossy video is available like for the previous three which were posted with the last single "Ooh La La".

The album is due on 20 Oct, so we may well be treated to another single before then.

Timothy Wilson [2023] - Hiding In Your Heart b/w I Must Love You [Numero Group #NUM4547]

One that's been lurking in our short list which we didn't get around to posting for one reason or another is Timothy Wilson "Hiding In Your Heart" / "I Must Love You". 

It was reissued digitally on 4 Sep by Numero Group. Originally released on the short-lived New York based Sky Disc label in 1972 owned by Randy Irwin, along with Strawberry. The B side, "I Must Love You" has been a Northern Soul in-demander for as long as we can remember, so much so that it was bootlegged and even these fetch up to £75. A styrene original has sold for £600 on Discogs but the highest price listed on Popsike is £400.

Wilson released around a dozen solo singles and one, self-titled, album in 1978 which is also highly sought after. He recorded his first single "Wedding Bells" with Tiny Tim & The Hits in 1958.  He died in 2017 aged 73

Lizzie Berchie [2023] - Am I An Adult Yet? [Tru Community] (Full EP)

We first featured emerging artist Lizzie Berchie from Newham, London, with her single "I Hope" in Apr '23 and again with her jazz flavoured  "Don't Get Ahead of Yourself" on 2 Aug. 

In between, on 4 Jul, she released a, gospel/spiritual like, single "Flaws & All" (which we included the music video for in her last post).

Lizzie is of Ghanaian heritage and gained an internship at Parlophone where she currently works as audience & engagement coordinator working with the labels artists such as Rachel Chinouriri and Gabriels .

To date she's released six singles and a five track, EP "Under The Sun", was released in July '22 and was extended to a full album with three additional tracks in Feb '23. Both include her first two singles. i.e. "Nsala" and "Pass Time".

We were intending to post her last single "We Found Love" (6 Sep) but today she has released a six track EP "Am I An Adult Yet?" (a question that I guess that most of us ask ourselves?) which contains her last four singles and two new songs which are both rather good.

She is most definitely an emerging talent to watch.

Zonke meets YORK [2023] - It's Love [Upper Level Records]

A single, "It's Love" ,by Zonke & YORK from a forthcoming album "the early tapes" due on 27 Oct. The album is essentially her first album "Soulitary" recorded in Germany and released by Columbia in Germany, Italy and Japan in 2004.

Two other singles have already been released, "Wena Wedwa" (1 Sep) and "Someday" (18 Aug) which we have also included below.

Zonke Dikana is a South African singer, songwriter, producer, who debuted in 2006 and rose to fame with her third album "Ina Ethe" in 2011. Both her parents were musicians, her father a drummer and mother a singer. To date she's released five albums, her last being "L.O.V.E."  in 2018.

YORK is York Ostermayer a saxophonist / flautist from Bremen who has worked with Randy Crawford and Phil Collins and was a member of Jazzkantine (later named Culture Clan) for who Zonke wrote a song "Africa My Motherland" for their 2003 "Africa" album. They went on to write together from Zonke's "Soulitary" album.
