Leroy Allen [2022] - I've Never Found A Girl (To Love Me Like You Do) [J-Town Records]

Leroy Allen is from Houston, TX, and was a member of the male group The Symphonics (there was a female group with the name who recorded on Brunswick and ABC) who later became God's Gift To Women who recorded two singles in the 70s, the first on A-I (dist. by All Platinum) followed by another on Listening Post.

In the 80s he formed Perfect Timin' and released an album and three singles on T.S.O.T. (The Sound Of Texas).

In more recent times he's released a number of singles including a cover of Rockie Robbins' "You And Me" in Apr 2021, and Tesla Groove released a pair of songs on 7" "You're The Best" which was featured on an album released in Apr 2020 ("Leroy Allen & Evette Busby - CMN Records Presents The Singers") and "I Love You" which was released as a single in 2020. His last single, "You're That Kinda Woman", (Apr 2022) passed me by so is included below.

He is back with another cover, this time of the Eddie Floyd song "I've Never Found A Girl (To Love Me Like You Do)" which was featured a few weeks back via Sammy Acuna's version on the "With Love Vol. 1" compilation.

I've scraped together a playlist of different versions, there are others but I think these are probably the best ones (that are available on Spotify at least).

Angels Of Libra & Nathan Johnston [2022] - Curtis (Do You Wanna Be A Star?) [Waterfall Records]

Just under three weeks ago Hamburg outfit Angels Of Libra released a three tracker "No No No (I'm so Broke)" featuring Maiiah and they are back today (28 Oct 2021) fronted by Nathan Johnston with a retro song, which going by the title ("Curtis (Do You Wanna Be A Star?)") is presumably a tribute to Curtis Mayfield.

dvsn [2022] - Working On My Karma [OVO Sound] (Full Album)

A new album "Working On My Karma" by Toronto duo dvsn who are producer Nineteen85 (Anthony Paul Jefferies) and vocalist Daniel Daley founded in 2015.

They last appeared on these pages in Jul 2021 with a single  "I Believed It" featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Mac Miller which sampled The Continental 4's "(You're Living In A) Dream World".

The key attraction of the album is another sample from The Manhattans "Don't Take Your Love" used on, funnily enough, "Don't Take Your Love". It was The Manhattans biggest hit to date in 1974 reaching #7 R&B and #37 Hot 100 and the song was written by Philly's Allan Harris, Bunny Sigler and Ron Kersey.

The album is available in Explicit and Clean versions, The link on image is to the clean version on Amazon but, whilst there is a clean version of "Don't Take Your Love" on Spotify, there isn't for the full album.

Zesi [2022] - Little Bite [Self Released]

Zesi (Gabriela Cecilia Villamizar) is a 19 year old singer/songwriter born and raised in Miami of Colombian/Venezuelan heritage. She is currently attending Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.

She released her third single "Little Bite" on 23 Oct 2022.
