I.Khan [2023] - Sea of Love [Kannon Entertainment]

I.KHAN is Indira Milini Khan and you would be correct in assuming that she is related to the legendary Chaka Khan as she is her daughter.

Indira was signed to Motown in the 90s as a member of a girl group Pretty In Pink, whilst still in her teens, who released just one album, "Wake Up", and two singles in 1991. 

After that she worked with Miki Howard, Johnny Gill, Shabba Ranks, Yvette Michelle, Paula Abdul and of course her mother.  In 2016 she featured in "Love Under New Management: The Miki Howard Story" a biopic about Miki Howard's life where Indira portrayed her mother.

She has been recording solo as I.KHAN since 2020 and last appeared on these pages last November with "Love Ship".

Today she has released two singles, the first a remix of her 2020 single "Don't Make Me" which features Beach McGee, and the better of the two "Sea Of Love", which I think is her best to date.

John Reid [2023] - I.O.U. [Rezzonator Music Limited]

Scot John Reid releases another single from his forthcoming "Soul Sessions Vol. 2" album which follows "Light Up My World" from Oct last year. Both songs were co-written with Ernie McKone and Michael McEvoy.

Reid has won an Ivor Novello Award and multiple BMI Awards, writing hit songs for the likes of Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Westlife, Il Divo and wrote the chart topping hit "A Moment Like This" for Kelly Clarkson which was later covered by Leona Lewis.

Quinn Walls [2023] - The Quinn Walls Experiance [Ray Citi Records]

A three track release from Quinn Walls who I can find nothing about. "The Quinn Walls Experiance" (as spelt incorrectly) appears to be his first release. I did find a Quinn Anthony Walls on Soundcloud who is from Orangeburg, SC, who sounds like it could be the same singer. One for the Southern Soul lovers.

What drew me initially to it was the cover of Tyrone Davis' "Turning Point" also recorded by Mack Simmons the following year in 1976. The song was written by Leo Graham whose other claim to fame was writing "Shining Star" for The Manhattans. He wrote and performed background vocals on many of Tyrone Davis albums in the late 70s and 80s.

I'm not sure whether the other two songs are originals or covers as they are all credited on Spotify to Walls and obviously he didn't write "Turning Point". I don't recognise them but have a feeling "Separate Ways" may not be an original but it's a pleasant song. If you know then please leave a comment.

Nia Chennai [2023] - Since We Ain't Together [WNTR Sounds / 303]

Twenty two year old south Londoner Nia Chennai Robinson released her sophomore single "Since We Ain’t Together" (S.W.A.T.) on 24 Jan '23 which follows her debut single "Players Part" from last October.

The song, which has hints of Lily Allen, talks about Nia gaining newfound confidence after a breakup that most, if not all, ex-lovers can relate to. 

There are three mixes, the original, sped up and slowed down versions, along with her debut single included in the release.

Nia is currently working on her debut EP expected for release later this year.

Kevin Ross [2022] - Look My Way [Art Society Music Group]

Washington, D.C. born and Berklee College of  Music graduate Kevin Ross releases his latest single "Look My Way" today. I wasn't too sure at first but I think it's one that grows on you. It's one of those contemporary songs, yet with a bit of a retro feel.

He launched his career in 2016 and has three albums to his name: The Awakening [2017], Drive 2 [2021] and Audacity Vol. 1-2 [2020] and has amassed over 100m streams.
