Cynthia Jones [2023] - Lifeline [Self Released]

We were introduced to Cynthia Jones last year with her single "Ain't No Half Steppin" which was an original song with a funky gospel/jazz vibe not Heatwave's 1976 hit of the same name written by Rod Temperton. 

Cynthia Jones (aka Etheridge) is from Raleigh, SC and, if it's the same artist (it certainly looks like her), has a single dated 1979 on Discogs and a few albums from the noughties and has more recently released a gospel album "Journey Of Soul" in 2011. In 2018 she released her last single "God's Got Me" which is a pleasant soulful gospel ballad and prior to that in 2016 "Give It Up".

Sash P [2023] - WINE (Clean Edit) [Self Released]

Raised in New Jersey, independent singer/songwriter Sash P (Sasha Phillips) is now based in Philadelphia since 2009. 

She describes her sound as a mix between HipHop/R&B and Pop/EDM. Her latest single "WINE" was released as an explicit version on 22 Jun and has now been released with a "Clean Edit".  It's what we would call soulful R&B.

Loyola University New Orleans [2023] - 4 The Culture Vol. 1: Gold Edition (R&B) [Self Released] (Full Album)

Two albums have been released today by Loyola University New Orleans, "4 The Culture Vol. 1: Gold Edition (R&B)" and "4 The Culture Vol. 1: Maroon Edition (Hip-Hop)" which should be self explanatory. i.e. one R&B and the other Hip-Hop.

Loyal University runs the first, and only, 'Bachelor of Science in Hip Hop and R&B' course so we presume these are members of the course. This, apparently, is the first instalment of an annual series.

We weren't expecting a great deal but decided to give it a spin and were pleasantly surprised with the R&B volume which has several good tracks.

Our picks on first listen being "Get Our Groove On (G.O.G.O)" feat. Shelby, "SABRINA!" feat. Aniya Teno and "All I Needed" feat. Kennadi Rose

Mahalia [2023] - Ready [Warner Music]

Mahalia Burkmar is from Leicestershire whose mother is Debian Curry (aka Debbion) who performed with Colourbox on their 1983 debut album Colour Box. Her father toured with Erasure.

She has over fifty singles/EPs and two albums yet the first time we featured her was in Nov last year with "Bag Of You".

Since then she has released two singles, ("Terms And Conditions" (Apr '23) (plus a set of remixes of it in May) and "Cheat" feat. JoJo (Jun '23)) and today they are packaged with her latest "Ready". which are are building towards a new album "IRL" set for release next Friday 14 Jul)

She also featured on a single with Elli Ingram, "Fool's Gold" in Mar '23.

Aaria Tae & Outlaw the Artist - Voices [Self Released]

The first appearance here for London-based, classically trained, Egyptian/Irish artist Aaria Tae  (Farrah Guenena) who has spent years writing for other artists. This has allowed her to get established within a circle of emerging artists to further develop herself.

Her latest single, "Voices" featuring Outlaw The Artist, released today is her third since her first "Balance" (Aug '22 and then "Who?" (Oct '22),  all self-written with others.

Ms. Thandi [2023] - Get To Know Me" [Self Released]

Ms. Thandi (pronounced Tahn-dee) is African-Australian (of Zimbabwean and South African heritage) Thandiwe Gudu  who was born and raised in Sydney.

To date she has released nine singles including her latest release "Get To Know Me", since her first "On The Table" in 2019. This includes two collaborative singes with JONCE (2020) and another with H.G.S. (2021).
