Maya Delilah is a new name to the blog. Listening to this
you would be excused for thinking she was from the Mississippi delta as
this sounds like southern, bluesy, gospel soul (especially with the organ)
but with a modern twist.
Maya, a singer/songwriter/guitarist from London, is only 20 years old and it is her playing the
guitar at around 2:30 (as the YT clip below shows). I'm no musician, but I
don't think you necessarily have to be to appreciate that this sounds
technically very good. It's not surprising then, to learn that she is a
graduate from The BRIT School in Croydon.
She has already released ten singles and an EP in the last year since
debuting with a six track EP "Oh Boy" in Mar 2020.
Her latest single "Thank You" was released on 2 Sep 2021 and has a bluesy/gospel feel but at the same
time has a neo soul twist.
I've just noticed that her last single, "Beautiful Season", (released in June) featured Samm Henshaw who is currently 'hot' after his recent soul chart success with "Grow". He is also a co-writer on "Thank You".
