A new single from Babyboy "Been Good" released on 24 Aug 2021. You'll recognise this as a contemporary
gospel/jazz take on "Oh Happy Day" which was a huge gospel hit for The Edwin Hawkins Singers in 1969
reaching #2 R&B and #4 Billboard Hot 100.
The billing was actually The Edwin Hawkins Singers Feat. Dorothy Combs Morrison who
later went solo and released an album "Brand New Day" on Buddah in 1970 and around ten singles between 1969-75. The album was mainly covers, the title track of which was coincidentally
written by Van Morrison, on which she covered Norman Greenbaum's #1 pop
hit "Spirit In The Sky").
Her last single was on Marvin Holmes' Brown Door label in 1975 and was
the superb "I Can't Go On Without You" which was/is a popular tune on the UK modern soul scene.
I can't find much info on Babyboy but from his live videos on his YouTube channel it looks like he's from the Rolling Fork/Greensville, MS area.
