Kelly Finnigan [2024] - Thom's Heartbreak / Leave You Alone [Colemine Records]

Monophonics frontman Kelly Finnigan has a new solo double-sider single out digitally and will be available on vinyl on 31 May from Colemine Records or Bandcamp. 

"Thom's Heartbreak" is an instrumental and "Leave You Alone" has been released digitally previously in July last year. Both tracks are taken from his acoustic mixtape "From Me To You" which was available on cassette only from Colemine Records last July.

Finigan is the son of Mike Finigan (who's middle name was Kelly) known to Northern Soulies for his first single "Bread And Water" (1966) which was a big sound at Wigan in the mid 70s. Originally released on a small local Wichita label (Rhythm & Soul the label's only release) and then on Philly's Parkway label.

He was mainly a session vocalist/keyboardist who toured with the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Joe Cocker, Etta James Sam Moore (Sam & Dave) and many other well known artists and twice won a Blues Music Award for his work with Taj Mahal as a member of Phantom Blues Band.  He died in 2021 aged 76.

Kelly Finnigan [2023] - Leave You Alone [Colemine]

Colemine drops Kelly Finnigan's new single "Leave You Alone" digitally on Friday (14 Jul) taken from his cassette only mixtape "From Me To You" also released on 14 Jul. 

NOTE: The mixtape is a limited product consisting of a collection of 16 songs that won't be available on vinyl, CD or digital streaming platforms (for some time) and Colemine is already sold out so you will need to source from a dealer.

The new single was written and recorded in 2019, in the same session as his debut album "The Tales People Tell", and we are told is a love story inspired by Bettye Swann. 

Finnigan, as you will know, is the frontman for The Monophonics and has been working with, and produced, the forthcoming album "Love Can't Be Borrowed" for The Sextones

Kelly Finnigan [2023] - Impressions of You (Acoustic) [Colemine Records]

Released yesterday in time for Valentines Day today is an acoustic version of "Impressions of You" from Kelly Finnigan's 2019 debut album "The Tales People Tell" on Colemine. He also released  the original version as a single in May 2020.

Monophonics & Kelly Finnigan [2022] - Sage Motel [Colemine Records] (Full Album)

Posting Nicky Egan's EP/album reminded  me of another Colemine release from Friday (13 May 2022) which hasn't been posted yet. It's the latest album by Monophonics & Kelly Finnigan "Sage Motel" which is also available on CD and vinyl. Two tracks have been released (and posted) as singles: "Warpaint" (15 Mar) and "Love You Better" (12 Apr).

I think "Love You Better" is still the standout track with only "Never Stop Saying These Words" and the title track, "Sage Motel", really getting much of my attention on first listen but I think it could well be one of those that grows on you with more plays.
