A three track EP "Robotronics" is released today (30 Jul 2021) by Malcolm Joseph. One of the tracks, "Falling", features Montreal born/L.A. based, neo-ragtime singer
Dessy Di Lauro who last appeared on a duet
with Matt Hoy in May with the lovers rock tune "Wonderland" which I quite liked but it appears not many others did!
The latest single, traditionalist will be pleased to learn, is a more
soulful outing which starts off with a riff that reminds me of "I Heard It
Through The Grapevine".
The other two tracks on the EP are not really of interest to
soulies. The title track "Robotronics" has a heavy funky bassline, but the vocals sound white and poppy. "Freedom (Just Let Me Be)" is quite jazz-hop with
vibraphone in evidence and features London jazz singer Cleveland Watkiss (also from Hackney).
Malcolm Joseph is a bass player, songwriter, producer from Hackney, London who's been around
since the 80s and performed with Grace Jones on tour and on her albums along with other artists. He
founded a band called 7th Heaven who released a few singles in the mid to
late 80s. He's also released some solo material including an album "The Unquiet Place" in 2003.
