Roy G. Hemmings is a veteran of the British soul music scene. In the mid 70s
he was a member of Birmingham's (UK) J.A.L.N. Band (Just Another Lonely Night") playing mainly disco, funk and soul with a hint of reggae. They had a
hit with a song Roy wrote, "Disco Music (I Like It)", in 1976 which was the first 12" single on the Magnet label.
From around 1990 until 2004 Hemmings was a member of The Drifters. This
was one of many post Atlantic period splinter groups calling themselves
The Drifters. This incarnation was managed by Faye Treadwell under the
management company was called Treadwell Drifters Inc.
As well as three albums with J.A.L.N. Band, Roy has released three solo
albums "No Afro, No Sequins, No Flares" (1997), "All Talked Out" (1999)
and "Philly vs Motown" (2017). In the 80s he also released a few
singles as Roy Gee & Energee.
So here we are in 2022 and Roy has a new single "You Got Everything To
Make Me Happy" produced by Reel People's Toni Economides and Mike Patto. Patto also plays keys on the track with Ernie McKone on bass and guitar and Dahlia Rowe on backing vocals. There is the original mix and instrumental along with a Quantize
Recording's head honcho Sean Spencer's "DJ Spen Remix". Whoever would have imagined we'd ever see an ex-Drifter on a soulful house tune!
It's currently only available via
Traxsource
with a wider release date of 16 Sep 2022.
Whilst digging around for links I also noticed that Manny 'The REALM' Rahelu has also got a remix of it available via Bandcamp, also on 16 Sep 2022.
