The Jacksons [2022] - Philadelphia Re-edit Sessions [Simpson Uniquity] (Full Album)

Paul Simpson is back with the first Philadelphia Re-edit Sessions since The Three Degrees in August. This time out his subject is The Jacksons.

All tracks are from their two Philadelphia International albums "The Jacksons" (1976) and "Goin' Places" (1977) except "Do the best you can" which appears to be an unreleased track.

Paul's missed a trick though, as the glaring omission is the flip to their UK pop chart #1 "Show Me The Way To Go" single "Blues Away" (written by Michael aged 18 and apparently his first song-writing credit) which is a long time favourite on the UK rare groove/modern soul scene!

However, the top tracks are the aforementioned "Show Me The Way To Go", "Even Though You're Gone" (albeit and instrumental version only), "Living Together" (album only) and "Style Of Life" (flip to "Enjoy Yourself").

Don't forget that these edits are only available for a limited period i.e. two weeks (until 31 Oct) and are only available from Bandcamp.

The Jacksons [1976] - Living Together [Epic (CA)#8-50420]

This may surprise many!  "Living Together" by The Jacksons is only available on a Canadian 45 tucked away on the B side to "Dreamer", otherwise album only from "The Jacksons". It's from their mid 70s Philly period.

"Living Together" was written by Dexter Wansel and reminds me of elements of Archie Bell & The Drells "Everybody Have A Good Time", which came out the same year, so I had a look to see if Wansel also wrote it but it was Bunny Sigler.

"Dreamer" was written by Gamble & Huff and was only released as a promo in US but charted at #22 in UK (but didn't have "Living Together" on the flip before you rush out to find one!).

Prices are rising on this one now that the cat is out of the bag, so expect to pay upwards of  around £60 if/when one becomes available as there are currently none for sale on Discogs, or just buy the album for a few quid as there are plenty of those around!

Whilst we are here I may as well post a couple of other Jacksons tracks. "Blues Away" (written by Michael) was the flip side to "Show You The Way To Go" (so can be picked up for literally pennies) and was also on The Jacksons album. "Even Though You're Gone" (another Gamble & Huff composition) was a UK 45 only and charted just before "Blame It On The Boogie" in 1978.

The Jacksons [2021] - Can You Feel It (Kirk Franklin Remix) (Triumph (Expanded Version)) [Epic Legacy]

An expanded edition of The Jacksons 1980 'Triumph' album was released today (30 Apr 2021) with several previously unreleased mixes.

The featured track is gospel artist Kirk Franklin's remix of 'Can You Feel It' which features Tamela Mann. There's a couple of other mixes, one featuring saxophonist David Sanborn, 'Island Remix'  and the 'X-MLK-Remix' which was released in Feb. There are also a few John Luongo mixes of 'Walk Right Now'.

From the original album, the best tracks for soul heads are probably 'Everybody' (I had forgotten how good that track was, I don't think it was ever released on a 45, A or B side) and 'This Place Hotel' (aka Heartbreak Hotel) and 'Give It Up'.
