The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2021... Part 30 (Aug 2021 Wk 34) Spotify Playlist

My selection of the best releases this week (Aug 2021 Wk 34)
In no particular order other than tempo.

Yet another pretty average week in terms of quantity of good new material. Carmichael Musiclover released his new album "Slow Motion" on Wednesday which isn't available to stream.

Not really a lot to choose from for the SoulStrutter Selection of the Week, but I've plumped for the debut EP from Ranay Shakara mainly for "I Been" but "Who Do You Love" is also a good track. Others under consideration where Saint Jaimz Feat. Maxine Jones with "Get Over Your Love" and Brittany Turnipseed for her debut EP "The Intro: Focused". Charli Dahni is a new artist to watch.

The Dirty Dozen - The Best Of 2021... Covers, Reissues, Remixes & Samples Part 23 (Aug 2021 Wk 34)

My selection of this week's best cover versions, remixes, reissues, previously unreleased and new songs using samples or new releases with a retro feel (Aug 2021 Wk 34). (In no particular order).

After a few sparse weeks, this week has been a bumper week for some fine reissues and covers. Athens Of The North reissued four Crystal Winds tracks over two 45s and Diggin' Deep came up with a must have 45 with two superb sides from Lee Hurst and Terry & The Pyrates. Hit And Run also reissued two 45s, Cynthia & The Imaginary 3 (not included as the key side isn't on Spotify) and Willie & West c/w  two tracks by Willie & The Might Magnificents. There seems to be confusion over whether Willie of Willie & West is or isn't Willie Feaster with Steve Guarnori stating that it is Willie Hackett but Garry Cape (Hit And Run) is not yet convinced. What makes it more confusing is that they both released "Get Away From Me Girl" on albums a year apart, further compounded by the fact that the track in the playlist is credited to Willie & West which is in fact the Willie & The Mighty Magnificents version with sax break!

Whether you can class Showship (Straight Jacket) as a reissue, re-recording or cover is a bit arbitrary as the original writer Adell Shavers Jr. is behind Showship. I'll call it a cover as it has different lead vocalist. Other covers include a Spotify only track by Ernie Isley's daughter Alex Isley (Isley Brothers / Aaliyah), Michael Dion & Cardi B (mashup of Anita Baker and Mtume), Funk Yourself (Donny Hathaway) and finally The Stubbs Girls (Levi Stubbs' sister and four nieces) (Four Tops).
