CARRTOONS [2023] - Saturday Night [Wichita Recordings] (Full Album)

Following the release of two singles from it ("Grace" (15 Aug) and "Put Me On" (earlier this week on 3 Sep)) , the seventh album, "Saturday Night", from New York multi-instrumentalist/producer Ben Carr aka CARRTOONS is released today (6 Oct).

Carr most recently featured on Miranda Joan's "Bada Bing!" single (8 Sep) and also featured heavily on Reuben James' "Champagne Kisses" album in June.

Classically-trained Carr is from  Beacon, NY, and has also collaborated with Usher, Mac Ayres, Roy Ayers and George Clinton amongst may others.

He blends neo soul, hip-hop and classic soul amongst the album's 14 tracks.  Could "I Choose You" be sampling the Paris 2-step classic? .. and we suspect that our fav, the instrumental  "Sparkle" is possibly sampling something that we can't place.

Miranda Joan feat. CARRTOONS [2023] - Bada Bing! [Self Released]

Miranda Joan DiPerno was born in Montreal but grew up in Vancouver, and is now based in Brooklyn, NYC. She debuted with a self-released five track EP "Still" in 2017 and has since released more than a dozen singles along with the release of her debut album "Windborne" (Dec '21).

Since the release of her album she's released her seventh single "Bada Bing!" (named after the fictitious strip club HQ in The Sopranos TV series) which features Ben Car (CARRTTONS). The song explores the flirtatious Bada Bing! fireworks moment when you meet someone new. Miranda tells us:

"Italian culture in large part revolves around food, and in my house that love lives in the pasta sauce. To this day there are few things more comforting than a bowl of pasta, and so “red sauce kind of loving” is the only kind of love I’m looking for. A love that is imbued with the foundational principles of cooking a great sauce: low and slow."

The song is from her forthcoming sophomore album, "Overstimulated", due on 10 Nov

CARRTOONS feat. Rae Khalil [2023] - Grace [Wichita Recordings]

The first single from an upcoming album "Saturday Night" (set for release on 6 Oct) by New York multi-instrumentalist/producer Ben Carr, aka CARRTOONS, is "Grace" released on 15 Aug.

The track features Grammy winning songwriter and R&B/Hip-Hop artist Rae Khalil from Torrance, CA, who has been endorsed by the likes of Anderson .Paak, Queen Latifah and Chance The Rapper. She also featured on a track on CARRTOONS' last album "Homegrown" (Apr '22).

The new fourteen track album will be CARRTOONS' seventh full length project although, curiously, the first was titled "CARTOONS Vol III" but Vols. I & II were both three track EPs from 2017 and appear to be only available on Bandcamp.

CARRTOONS' most recent work was featuring on all tracks on Reuben James' "Champagne Kisses" album in Jun '23.

Reuben James feat. Ric Wilson, CARRTOONS & Joel Culpepper [2023] - Champagne Kisses [Rufio Records]

The title track from Reuben James' new studio album "Champagne Kisses" (due 23 Jun '23) is released today (2 Jun '23) featuring Ric Wilson, CARRTOONS & Joel Culpepper. It follows "Means The World" (Apr '23) and "Love Stoned" (May '23).

All three tracks are included on the new album along with seven new songs one of which features legendary vibesman Roy Ayers. 

We are informed that it is his debut album although he released "Adore" in 2019 (which may be classed as an EP) along with "Tunnel Vision" which we believe is a live recording so this will be his first full studio album. In Dec '22 he also released his first set of solo recordings "Piano Love 1".

Birmingham based James made his name writing and touring with Sam Smith. He wrote songs for Smith's 4-million-selling album "The Thrill Of It All" and they have performed together around the world including at The Oscars and The Grammys.

He has worked and collaborated with the likes of Stormzy, Sam Smith, Disclosure, Marcus Mumford and Herbie Hancock which has led to James developing a unique sound and style of his own and he is now widely considered as one of the most exciting artists to have emerged from the UK in recent years.

Reuben James Feat. Braxton Cook, CARRTOONS & Gareth Lockrane [2023] - Means The World [Rufio Records]

Birmingham-born vocalist and piano virtuoso Reuben James made his name writing and touring with Sam Smith. He wrote songs for Smith's 4-million-selling album "The Thrill Of It All" and they have performed together around the world including at The Oscars and The Grammys.

He has worked and collaborated with the likes of Stormzy, Sam Smith, Disclosure, Marcus Mumford and Herbie Hancock which has led to James developing a unique sound and style of his own and he is now widely considered as one of the most exciting artists to have emerged from the UK in recent years. 

He's featured here multiple times over the last couple of years, not least with his killer tune "Closer" which featured Sophie Faith, Jay Prince a& CARRTOONS.

His latest single "Means The World" was released two weeks ago and features Braxton Cook, CARRTOONS & Gareth Lockrane. 

The song was written and produced by Ben Carr (CARRTOONS) and Reuben James, with vocals by Reuben James and Braxton Cook, piano by Reuben James, drums and bass by Ben Carr (CARRTOONS),  alto saxophone by Braxton Cook, Ffute by Gareth Lockrane.
