Unleashed on Bandcamp (and YouTube) today is the latest remix from
Basel's DJ Soulchild.
He says "I've always felt like there's never been a decent club-friendly version
of this Musiq Soulchild classic, so I wanted to change that with my
groovy Future Funk approach".
The song was Musiq Soulchild's debut (and lead single) from his debut album "Aijuswanaseing" in 2000 and reached #6 R&B and #31 Hot 100, not bad for a
debut?
It was subtitled "Just Friends (Sunny)" with Bobby Hebb's name added to the credits, so presumably it samples
portions of "Sunny" but we can't really detect it, perhaps it's the chord
progressions?
DJ Soulchild ups the tempo and beefs up the bassline for, as he says,
club friendliness, with elements of Gwen McCrae's "Funky Sensation".
It's available only via DJ Soulchild's Bandcamp store.
