The tenth studio album from the ever consistent Ledisi, "Good Life", hits the streets today. Her last album was a tribute to one of her
major influencers, Nina Simone, with "Ledisi sings Nina" in 2021, for which she received a Grammy nomination, and followed a
live album "Live At The Troubadour" the same year and "The Wild Card" in 2020.
Ledisi received a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance for "Anything But You" (from "The Wild Card") along with fourteen other nominations and a host
of other awards since debuting in 2000 with "Soulsinger" which immediately saw action on modern soul dancefloors with "Good Lovin'".
She was born in New Orleans and raised in Oakland, CA. In more recent
years she has featured in several movies such as portraying Mahlia
Jackson, initially in 'Selma' and then in the the biopic of her life
"Remember Me", playing Patti LaBelle in the "American Soul" TV series and
last year she played Gladys Knight in "Spinning Gold", the
story of former Buddah record executive Neil Bogart who formed Casablanca
Records. In addition she has appeared in many stage productions.
The new album opens with the title track and includes three songs already
released as singles, the music videos for which are included below. In
addition to Kenny Lattimore featuring on the last single, "Perfect Stranger", there is a guest appearance by Butcher Brown on "Quality Time".
As we have come to expect, it's a solid album of predominantly mellow and
laid back, soulful, songs and impossible to choose standouts as it will take
several listens and we will all have our own favourites but, for what it's
worth, previous singles aside, we are leaning towards "Quality Time", "Choose Me" and "Hello Love" on first listens and we're sure the list will be added to the more we listen.
