Musiq Soulchild [2024] - Just Friends (Sunny) (DJ Soulchild Remix) [Humble Savage Records]

Unleashed on Bandcamp (and YouTube) today is the latest remix from Basel's DJ Soulchild.

He says "I've always felt like there's never been a decent club-friendly version of this Musiq Soulchild classic, so I wanted to change that with my groovy Future Funk approach". 

The song was Musiq Soulchild's debut (and lead single) from his debut album "Aijuswanaseing" in 2000 and reached #6 R&B and #31 Hot 100, not bad for a debut?  

It was subtitled "Just Friends (Sunny)" with Bobby Hebb's name added to the credits, so presumably it samples portions of "Sunny" but we can't really detect it, perhaps it's the chord progressions?

DJ Soulchild ups the tempo and beefs up the bassline for, as he says, club friendliness, with elements of Gwen McCrae's "Funky Sensation".

It's available only via DJ Soulchild's Bandcamp store.

DJ Soulchild [2023] - Essential DJ Soulchild Vol. 2 [Self Released] (Full Album)

Following the release of his latest mix of Anthony Hamilton's "Best Of Me" (which he blends with Howard Johnson's "Keepin' Love New" (1982)), DJ Soulchild has released a compilation of his best remixes between 2017-23 titled "Essential DJ Soulchild Vol. 2".

He takes contemporary tunes and blends several of them with well know classic soul tunes from the likes of Maze, Teddy Pendergrass, Fat Larry's Band, Rick James and Michael Wycoff, to name a few. We wont spoil the fun and let you work them out for yourselves.

Anthony Hamilton [2023] - Best Of Me (DJ Soulchild Remix) [Humble Savage Records]

DJ Soulchild (aka Denny Sutton) has been teasing us with his latest mix on social media for a week or two. It gets a release via Bandcamp today. 

It's a remix of Anthony Hamilton's 2011 album track "Best Of Me" from "Back To Love".

He appears to have blended in elements of Howard Johnson's 1982 two-stepper "Keepin' Love New", and very effective it is too.

UPDATE: DJ Soulchild has just uploaded "Essential DJ Soulchild Vol. 2" on his Bandcamp channel which is a compilation his best remix work between 2017-23. It includes this Anthony Hamilton mix and another well worth checking out is Canita feat. Noel Gourdin "No Love (DJ Soulchild Remix)" which samples Teddy P's "Come Go With Me". Another samples Maze and others Michael Wycoff and Fat Larry's Band but we'll let you figure those out.
