The Shapeshifters in the form of Simon Marlin and, then
partner, Max Reich broke through in 2004 with "Lola's Theme" (which sampled Johnnie Taylor's marvellous modern soul anthem "What About My Love") which hit the #1 spot in the UK and had a total run of 25 weeks on the
chart lasting almost a year (i.e. it dropped out and re-entered a number
of times).
They have had a further three UK Top 40 hits, and another two in Top
100 but thus far have only released one album, "Sound Advice" in 2006. Their second "Let Loose" is out today and features predominantly their singles since 2017
when Marlin and Reich parted company.
As Marlin is the producer all tracks feature guest artists ranging from
Joss Stone, Billy Porter, Adi Oasis, Kimberly Davis (3 tracks),
Teni Tinks (4 tracks), Obi Franky (2 tracks),
Aria Lyric and
Fiorious and Ramona Renae featuring on their current single, a
great cover of Talking Heads' "Slippery People".
There are four new songs in the fourteen track package: "Look, Don't Touch" and "You Ain't Love" feat. Teni Tinks along with "The One That Got Away" and "Giving Me Something Better" feat. Obi Franky.
