Terez [2022] - I Don't Need You Anymore [Self Released]

This is the third time this week Rose Royce has cropped up. First with a reissue of "Is It Love Your After" by them last Friday, then on Sunday with a cover of "Wishing On A Star" released as a single last year and featuring on Tyra LeVone's excellent new album "Chronicles Of Life" which is 'smashing' the Amazon UK Hot New Releases this week with consistently 12 tracks appearing on it daily, so 'should' by all accounts be a new entry on Global Soul chart today, but we shall see! 

Finally, this lo-fi track released 17 Jun 2022 by Terez "I Don't Need You Anymore" samples "Love Don't Live Here Anymore". Surprisingly for a sampler it is nearly 5 minutes long, they are usually pretty short i.e. sub 2 mins, and this IMO is at least 3 mins too long! 

It's just posted for curiosity value and an excuse to post the original which was Rose Royce's biggest chart hit in UK reaching #2 on the official UK pop chart in 1978 just beating "Wishing On As Star" from earlier that year which made it to #3. Being the anorak I am I checked to see who's covered it and I was surprised to see Madonna did it in 1984 (a non charting single and on "Like A Virgin") before our own Jimmy Nail (star of 'Auf Wiedersehen, Pet') had a #3 pop hit with it the following year. A few other noteworthy versions are Faith Hill with Mary J, Blige (1995), Renee Geyer (2003), Patti Labelle (2005), Seal (2011) and Nicole Henry (2013).

Whilst looking for a live video of Rose Royce singing this song I came across some live footage of Gwen Dickey performing it an London's Jazz Cafe in 2014, Enjoy!  There are a couple of others on YouTube from Margate Soul Festival 2017 singing it and Wishing On A Star". 

If you want to see Gwen then she is appearing in the UK as part of the Giants Of Soul tour Sep/Oct 2022.
