The latest vinyl reissue from Izipho Soul (due 1 Jul 2021) is a modern
soul classic from Arthur Foy which now commands 4 figures on original
vinyl release on MCS from 1980. The flip, a southern soul strutter, is taken from his
only album, "I Like Kissing On You" which appears to have been released only(?) on cassette on Susie
Q Records which was owned by Stanley Lewis and named after a song he
wrote called "Susie-Q" recorded by The Crew-Cuts in 1957 (There's an
interview with him on Soul Source).
The MCS 45 seems to be his only (original) 45, with it's flip side "Get
Up And Dance" being reissued twice by Luv N' Haight in 2009 and 2010,
which you'd think from the title and date would be an 80s boogie / funk
track, but it's more of a funky, rare groove, mid-tempo stepper.
NOTE: this was originally posted on 22 Jun, but I noticed that the
original SoundCloud links were dead and made enquiries with Izipho Soul
who told me that SoundCloud had unilaterally removed the tracks even
though they are licensed to them. Guilty until proven innocent in these
woke days, it's a pity some of these web firms can't take down online
abuse as quickly ... but then there are no financial penalties to
'motivate' them to move as quickly!
Anyway, they have sent me the soundfiles to post as there is
insufficient time to go through the laborious appeal process before the
tracks are released so I suggested that i post them on their
behalf.
