Lila Iké feat. H.E.R. [2024] - He Loves Us Both [RCA / In.Digg.Nation Collective]

Lila Iké (pronounced Lee-lah Eye-kay) is Alecia Tameka Grey from Manchester, Jamaica, who emerged in 2017 as part of Protoje's In.Digg.Nation Collective.

For her latest, reggae/lovers rock style, single, "He Loves Us Both", she has collaborated with five time Grammy winning Gabriella Wilson, better know under her acronym H.E.R. (Having Everything Revealed). 

Bay Area native Wilson was signed to RCA aged only 14 after participating in Disney's Best Next thing in 2009. After releasing a single under her real name in 2014, she adopted her alias releasing "H.E.R. Volume 1" in 2016.

Since then she has received 25 Grammy nominations winning five, two in both 2019 and 2021 and one in 2022.

Desti [2024] - Part Of Me [Self Released]

A soulful reggae / lover's rock styled song titled "Part Of Me" is the second single this year from Destiny Contreras. You might have assumed that she'd be a UK based singer but in fact she's LA based of Mexican/Guatemalan origin.

Her first was "With My Friends" (Jan '24) is in a similar vein but with perhaps a more neo soul orientation.

JoannieJ [2023] - You Bring Me Joy [Geme Records] PROMO

JoannieJ is the music alter ego for Joan Josephs who is originally from Birmingham. She released a six track EP "Introducing" in 2020 that has been on her Soundcloud channel since around 2012 which, we assume from the title, was her debut release.

However, she has been singing since 1986 performing cover versions live in pubs and clubs and also performs with several groups,SistaWithSoul (SWS), SoulFusionSeven (SFS) and Soul Queens and is currently working on her debut album planned for release next year (2024). We discovered that she sang on Steel Pulse's 1991 "Victims" album, so she has paid a lot of dues!

She has a new reggae/lovers rock single due for release on 7 Jul called "You Bring Me Joy" which is an original song not, as you may expect, a cover of Anita Baker's song.

Joannie is also a presenter on LWR Radio (London World Radio).

A forthcoming 45 reissue from Athens Of The North pairs two sides from UK reggae/lovers rock label Sir George owned by Sir George Brightly.

The A side is Wendy Walker "We've Got One" flipped with Legal Assault feat. Dan-Elle (aka Danielle Harvey) "Nice & Slow" both originally released around 1992/93 and produced by Anthony 'Pure Silk' Brightly the label owner's son who recorded as Pure Silk.

Adelaide Mackenzie [2023] - I'm Feeling You [Self Released]

South Londoner Adelaide Mackenzie is a graduate of the BRIT School who has so far released two albums "Daily Process" (2005) (now deleted which commands almost £150 on CD) and "Simply Me" (2019) which featured The Floacist and included a cover of Brook Benton's "Endlessly (video below) covered by Randy Crawford.

She has performed with artists including Jean Carn, Alexander O’Neil, Aswad, Frankie Beverley & Maze, Goapele, Marcia Griffiths, Teedra Moses and featured on Noel Gallagher's #1 album "Who Built The Moon?" in 2017.

Her new lovers rock single "I'm Feeling You" was due for release on Friday but there has been a delay.

Keisha Martin & Maurice Gregory [2023] - BEST PART [Self Released]

It's probably no surprise after listening to the new single from Keisha Martin to discover that the NYC based singer/songwriter originally hails from Jamaica. Her latest single, "BEST PART", with  Maurice Gregory has been floating around on promo for a few weeks and was eventually released on 13 Feb '23. 

Gregory is a Grammy winning and twice nominated singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist producer who has worked with the likes of Shaggy, Beenieman, Julian Marley, Morgan Heritage, The Skatalites, Thirdworld, Freddie McGregor, Heather Headley, Diana King and has been a member of Third World for the last ten years.

Keisha in turn has shared stages with Black Uhuru, Melisa Morgan, Gerald Alston, Marcia Griffiths, Maxi Priest, Shaggy, Kymani Marley and many others.

Cale Austin [2022] - Whisper (Paul Phillips Soulful Riddim Remix) [Many Worlds Music]

At the back end of 2021 (3 Dec) a debut single "Whisper" from Cale Austin was posted. Although I felt it was perhaps a bit poppy I loved the vocals and notified the leading UK promoter of it who later had it remastered and reissued.

It has now received a Paul Phillips Soulful Riddim Remix which gives it more of a reggae/lovers rock vibe, and is available from 12 Aug 2022.

Some may know the name Paul Phillips who was a member of UK 70s Brit-Funk pioneers Hi-Tension and the connection is that Cale Austin is the nephew of Jeff Guishard percussionist/vocalist with the band, who co-wrote the song, and also of Jungle rapper/MC, Stevie Hyper D.
