Lila Iké feat. H.E.R. [2024] - He Loves Us Both [RCA / In.Digg.Nation Collective]

Lila Iké (pronounced Lee-lah Eye-kay) is Alecia Tameka Grey from Manchester, Jamaica, who emerged in 2017 as part of Protoje's In.Digg.Nation Collective.

For her latest, reggae/lovers rock style, single, "He Loves Us Both", she has collaborated with five time Grammy winning Gabriella Wilson, better know under her acronym H.E.R. (Having Everything Revealed). 

Bay Area native Wilson was signed to RCA aged only 14 after participating in Disney's Best Next thing in 2009. After releasing a single under her real name in 2014, she adopted her alias releasing "H.E.R. Volume 1" in 2016.

Since then she has received 25 Grammy nominations winning five, two in both 2019 and 2021 and one in 2022.

Madison McFerrin [2024] - OMW (Pachyman Remix) [Self Released]

Originally included on Madison McFerrin's "I Hope You Can Forgive Me" album last May was "OMW" (on my way) which now receives a Patchyman Remix which takes it into dub reggae territory, and quite effective it is too.

You'd be forgiven for assuming that Patchyman was, therefore, a rasta man, but he is in fact Puerto Rican Patchy Garcia who developed a love for early Jamaican music.

Madison's father is jazz singer Bobby McFerrin who had a world wide hit with the reggae inspired "Don't Worry Be Happy" which won him three Grammy awards in 1988 for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance. Unbelievably, it has received almost 378m streams on Spotify alone!

Sugar Minott [2023] - One Step Ahead [Daptone]

As if by magic, having posted "One Step Ahead" by Aretha earlier, we have received a previously unreleased reggae version by Sugar Minott from a forthcoming Daptone compilation "If You Want Me To.. Victor Axelrod Productions". It's a  collection of singles released between 2007-2023 as well as unreleased tracks from Sugar Minott and Binky Griptite.

Axelrod has worked behind the scenes at Daptone for many years as a keyboardist, arranger, writer, and producer. His, over sixty, credits include working with The Dap-Kings, Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, Lee Fields and Daptone newcomer Jalen N'Gonda. He earned a Grammy Award for his contribution to Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black" and has worked on dozens of projects with Mark Ronson.

Two other tracks have been pre-released before the album escapes on 22 Sep, which is also available on CD and vinyl. Both are reggae flavas, a cover of "I'd Rather Go Blind" (the Etta James classic) by The Frightnrs and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings with "How Long Do I Have To Wait For You?" written by Daptone chief Bosco Mann and Axelrod.

The Sugar Minott track is available on a 7" vinyl (no word of what's on the flip).

Savannah Dumetz [2022] - Close 2 U [Self Released]

Savannah Dumetz featured here just over three weeks ago with her single "Breathe" on 11 Aug. It was her first single since 2016 and she is back with a new reggae/lovers rock flavoured, self-written, song "Close 2 U" released on Thursday (1 Sep 2022).

Savannah is from south London and released her first single "Naked" in 2016 aged 19. If you follow the link above to her last single there are some videos for live acoustic covers showing that she is certainly an artist to watch.

Cale Austin [2022] - Whisper (Paul Phillips Soulful Riddim Remix) [Many Worlds Music]

At the back end of 2021 (3 Dec) a debut single "Whisper" from Cale Austin was posted. Although I felt it was perhaps a bit poppy I loved the vocals and notified the leading UK promoter of it who later had it remastered and reissued.

It has now received a Paul Phillips Soulful Riddim Remix which gives it more of a reggae/lovers rock vibe, and is available from 12 Aug 2022.

Some may know the name Paul Phillips who was a member of UK 70s Brit-Funk pioneers Hi-Tension and the connection is that Cale Austin is the nephew of Jeff Guishard percussionist/vocalist with the band, who co-wrote the song, and also of Jungle rapper/MC, Stevie Hyper D.

DJ HASEBE [2022] - I see the light in you [INSENSE MUSIC WORKS INC]

DJ HASEBE (Hasebe Daisuke) aka Old Nick is a Japanese DJ/Producer who released his fist single of 2022 today "I see the light in you". It sounds like it could be a sampler of something (that I don't recognise) and has a reggae vibe. Something a little different that reminds me a bit of The Avalanches "Since I Left You" in feel for some reason!

Elujay is a singer/songwriter/producer from Oakland, CA whilst Serpentwithfeet hails from Baltimore, MD.

It's a laid back tune with a reggae/lovers rock feel ... but then the clue's in the title "Luvaroq".
