Four tracks from this debut solo album "Da Bang" by Brooklyn born, Rome based, drummer/multi-instrumentalist Gregory Hutchinson
have been drip fed over the last few months. Today the full album is
released. Hutchinson has been around since the 90s and has featured on
albums by Oscar Peterson and Lalo Schifrin amongst many others and has
worked with jazz greats such as Betty Carter, Dianne Reeves, Lou Donaldson, Diana Krall, and Harry
Connick Jr and of course many others.
The album features a host of guest artists including Sy Smith,
trumpeter Nicholas Payton and Ohio's Kameron Corvet to name but a few.
Our picks of the pack are "What's Best For Us" feat PJ along with three of the four tracks released as singles i.e.
"Losing You" feat. Leona Berlin (15 Sep), "New Dawn" feat. Liselotte Östblom (28 Jul) and "Blow Your Mind" / "Let's Take It Back" feat. Sy Smith, Javier Starks (16 Jun).
It's available digitally, on CD and vinyl. not sure if it's because
it's a major labels or not, but £33 for a 15 track CD is on the expensive side (don't you think?) especially when you realise that it was
released on CD last year and you can pick one up via Discogs for less
than half that price. And £67 for vinyl is crazy even though with 15 tracks
it's probably double vinyl. What are these marketing people on?
