When we first came across this Kek'star's Remix of
Avant's "My First Love" we weren't sure as we thought, why mess with a good thing? But the more
we've listened, the more it has grown on us.
It is, of course, a cover of one of Angela Winbush's /
Rene & Angela's finest moments (from "Rise" in 1983) covered by Cleveland's Myron Avant featuring
KeKe Wyatt on his debut, platinum selling, album "My Thoughts" in 2000 and also released as a single. It featured in our first episode
of 21st Century Soul - 2000 (Best Of).
Keke'star is Gregory Maake Mashosho a DJ/producer/remixer from
Johannesburg who provided us with a remix of Kem's "Lonely" last week and comes up trumps again with this remix.
It doesn't seem to be available, as yet, on the digital platforms, and
has a release date of 2 Jun '23 on Spotify.
