L.A. based Shelbie Nicholson, aka Rebel Rae from Washington D.C., is a new name to us and checking back on some of her earlier material we learn why as much of her material is pop oriented. However, her latest single "Used To Be" is a groove. It opens with a muted sample of Rose Royce's "Wishing On A Star" which drew us in and then grows into a nice melodic mid-temp stepper.
She supported Ari Lennox opening for her on on her European "Shea Butter Baby Tour" in Dec 2019.
