DJ Kool Keith [2022-09-06] - Soulful Slow Jams [Soul Radio Coast2Coast]

The Soul Emperor's Soulful Slow Jams show broadcast on L.A. station Soul Radio Coast 2 Coast Mon/Tue (5/6 Sep 2022).

He played the full version of The Ambassadors "I Really Love You", a song that has been sampled by several artists in the last year i.e. Morgan Munroe "Mutual", Akori "It's Hot In Here", Charlie Dhani "Stay Or Go", Lion Babe "Home" to name just a few The song was released in 1969 on Philly's Arctic label and was written by label owner Jimmy Bishop and one Kenny Gamble who you may just happen to know of!

The Four Mints were a male vocal quartet from Columbus, OH. They released their first single in 1969 on Holiday which was later released on Capsoul in 1973. Both labels were Columbus based and owned by local DJ Bill Moss. Holiday only released three singles and was then replaced by Capsoul which released around a dozen singles between 1970-74. Five of them were by The Four Mints who also released a full album "Gently Down The Stream" on the label in 1973 on which this song appeared as well as on a single. It's got that early 70s sweet soul sound which was contemporary at the time with the likes of The Stylistics, The Chi-Lites and The Dramatics and others all having success with it and is now popular on the East L.A. Lowrider scene.

The Triumphs "The World Owes Me A Lovin'" (this week's SoulStrutter Selection) is a superb deep soul tune tucked away on the flip side to their big Northern Soul tune "I'm Coming To Your Rescue" on Okeh from 1967. I believe that it was originally a promo only with stock/issue repressed copies appearing in the 70s to satisfy the demand for the Northern Soul scene. The lead singer, and writer of the song featured here, is Delilah Kennebruew aka Delilah Moore who released a few solo singles in the 70s on Money and Middle Earth which are popular for lovers of crossover soul.

DJ Kool Keith has two shows per week, his Soulful Vibes show Sun 12:00-14:00 (BST/UK Time) on Soul Groove Radio and his Soulful Slow Jams show on Soul Radio Coast 2 Coast 22:00 PDT (Tue 06:00 BST in UK).
