"Take Out The Trash" is the third, and best in my view, single to be pre-released (9 Feb)
by Shirley Davis & Silverbacks from their forthcoming third album
"Keep On Keepin' On" due on 25 Mar 2022.
The title track was released on 23 Feb and "Stay Firm" on 9 Feb.The three released tracks are all retro 60s tunes. I've also included videos for the other two singles released and a sneak
preview of the opening track "Culture Or Vulture" as they have posted a
video of them performing it live on their YouTube channel.
It won't really surprise you to discover that she has been a backing
vocalist for Lee Fields and was influenced by, and became good friends with,
Sharon Jones.
Davis was born in London to Jamaican parents but began her career in
Melbourne where she became the lead singer of Australia’s premier retro soul
and funk outfit Grand Wazoo. This led to her becoming the go-to backing
vocalist for soul royalty such as Wilson Pickett, Lee Fields and especially
Marva Whitney, who became a close friend and mentor, when they toured
Australia.
She relocated to Europe and was discovered by Tucxone Records when she made
an impromptu performance with Sharon Jones and was then introduced to
Silverbacks (the six-piece soul band from Madrid who were the mainstays of
Tucxone) and recorded their debut album "Black Rose" in 2016 followed by "Wishes And Wants" in 2018.
