Five new entries from Jazz Amadi, Ari Lennox, Reuben James Feat. Jaz Karis, Yummy Bingham and Marshella Muzic the highest at #9.
Only Elaine E’ssential, from last week's six new entries, has made much
progress moving up seven to #10. If you listen to the podcast of the show
(at around 61:18) you will hear Mr. Franklin being disbelieving of a
comment made that the song was co-written by Sam Dees. So in order to
clarify, I fact checked on
BMI
and the song is indeed registered to Sam L Dees. However, for 'belt &
brace', I contacted Elaine to clarify as I thought perhaps he may have
been credited for a sample of Atlantic Starr's "Am I Dreaming" (from "Radiant" 1980 which he wrote. If you listen to the linked sound file the intro melody from "Am I Dreaming" is sampled) and she confirmed with the
following comment.
"Hello thanks for your write up. Yes Sam Dees is credited for the Sample
& phrase, “Am I Dreamin’, Am I just Imagining you’re hear in my life”.
I wrote every other lyric. Thanks for clarifying, I hope this helps."
Carmichael Musiclover stayed on top for the second week and fourth week on
the chart.
My 'kiss of death' for Jay Diggs, Will Downing, Kim Tavar, Victoria Monét
and Amaria to drop out of the chart all materialised as did one of two
suggested from The Dirty Dozen to chart i.e. Marshella Muzic but not Wendy
B.
I think it may also surprise Franklin (and other doubters) that Down To
Earth is likely to make an appearance on the chart next week if the views on this
blog and the general buzz around the album converts into plays from
DJs. The album was serviced to DJs/radio stations etc. on Wednesday this week using the
review from this blog. The group asked for it not to be distributed as
promos until after it's release last Friday (10 Sep). It already tops the
Soul Buzz chart
and I fully expect it to be at least in the Starpoint Breakers chart on
Monday, if not a new entry on the full UK Soul Chart.
UPDATE 20/09 Just been told that Down To Earth is #1 in Breakers Chart today. Now confirmed here.
As for next week, I predict all five fallers this week will drop out, but
Mandee may cling on for another week as I think the London urban DJ's
love it! They may be joined by Arjuna Oakes and possibly Brandy
Haze who hasn't made a lot of progress moving up just one place. Jazz
Amadi will go one way or the other but will hopefully survive as there are
several worthy tracks on the "Late Bloomer" debut album. So we could have
at least another six new entries next week.
Losers:
Victoria Monét, Kim Tavar, Amaria, Will
Downing, Jay Diggs
