Prince [2023] - Get Blue [NPG Records]

A fourth previously unreleased Prince song from a forthcoming reissue of Prince & The New Power Generation's  "Diamonds and Pearls (Super Deluxe Edition)" is "Get Blue" which was pre-released on 29 Sep. 

The 'core' album was reissued on 28 Sep with the Super Deluxe Edition full set slotted for 27 Oct. The CD/Blu-Ray set consists of 7 CDs and a Blu-Ray disc with the Vinyl edition consisting of 12 discs. The 75 song set contains 47 previously unreleased songs.

Prince [2023] - Insatiable (Early Mix) [NPG Records]

A previously unreleased mix of Prince's "Insatiable" has been pre-released ahead of the "Diamonds and Pearls (Super Deluxe Edition)" due on 27 Oct which consists of 75 tracks with 47 of them previously unreleased. The album will be available in various formats, digital, 7 x CD, 12 x LP and Blu-Ray.

The album was Prince's 13th studio album, and the first with The New Power Generation, released in Sep 1991 and remains his best selling album in the UK.

The video below is the original not the Early Mix which was a #3 R&B hit in 1991.

Prince [2007] - Somewhere Here On Earth [NRG Records]

As you are probably well aware, it would have been Prince's 65th birthday today. He died on 21 Apr 2016 aged 57 of a fentanyl overdose.

To commemorate it here is possibly his finest recording from his 2007 album "Planet Earth" titled "Somewhere Here On Earth", simply 'stunning', showing his more soulful, deeper and jazzier side.

As you are probably well aware, a new album from Prince "Welcome To America" was released  at the end of July.  In that post I stated that I wasn't the greatest fan of his music as it was very funk/rock/pop oriented.

Prince [2021] - Welcome 2 America [Legacy]

Possibly one of the most hyped albums of the year is Prince's "Welcome 2 America" which has been 'teased' for months with three singles being trickled from it over the last few months. I'm not one of Princes admirers so wasn't quick to post it on release yesterday before digesting the tracks. From a purely soul perspective there is very little of interest, for me, on the album as I find a lot of his material pop, funk and rock. The best track has already been posted "Born 2 Die" as it was the second single released on 3 Jun  after the title track on 9 Apr. The most recent single was "Hot Summer" let out last week (23 Jul).

The best tracks are the aforementioned title track, "Born 2 Die", "When She Comes" is quite a good ballad and the funk track "Same Page, Different Book", if I were stretching it "Running Game (Son Of A Slave Master)" isn't a bad track, but the others on the album leave me cold, but I'm sure Prince's legion of fans will lap this up ... they already have, as ten of the twelve tracks are already all over the Amazon chart,  only "Born 2 Die" and "Welcome 2 America" aren't in the top 30 at time of writing, probably because they have already been released as singles.

I won't let my own prejudice influence you, he was undoubtedly a unique talent but, for me, he's just not very soulful, so here's the full album.

The second single to be pre-released from his posthumous album "Welcome 2 America" (originally recorded in 2010 due 30 Jul 2021) was released yesterday (3 Jun). The other being the title track released (and posted) 8 Apr 2021.

One of Prince's more soulful recordings in the style of Curtis Mayfield.

Prince [2021] - Welcome 2 America [Legacy]

A previously unreleased/archived album recorded in 2010 by Prince 'Welcome 2 America' is to be released on 30 Jul 2021 (available to pre-order now). The title track was released yesterday (8 Mar 2021).

It's not what you would normally expect from Prince. It's a contemporary spoken word political statement (in the style of Gil Scott-Heron), jazz-hop track. Don't dismiss it if you think it's the usual electro funk he is most known for.

The Deluxe Edition version will include a Blu-ray disc of Prince’s full performance at The Forum Inglewood, CA, on 28 Apr 2011.

Chaka Khan & Prince [1998] - Sweet Thing [Live @ Cafe De Paris, London]

I'm posting some 'randon' stuff today as new releases have all but dried up.

This is a live performance by Chaka Khan with Prince in 1998 (28 Aug) at Cafe de Paris in London.  It is arguably her best known 70s song, 'Sweet Thing', which was her second highest charting single with Rufus in US (#5) in 1975, after 'Tell Me Something Good' (#3) the previous year.

'The Artist (formerly known as Prince)', as he liked to be referred then, co-produced, and co-wrote 11 of the 14 tracks, on Chaka Khan's 1998 album 'Come 2 My House'.

Her 1984 hit 'I Feel For You' was written by Prince and he originally recorded it in 1979 on his second, self-titled, album.
