GeeJay [2024] - What's the Sun Without the Rain? [Self Released] (Full Album)

A song that is more than likely to be a candidate in our end of year reckonings is "Stronger Than You Think" from GeeJay.

They have their debut album "What's the Sun Without the Rain?" lined up for release on 28 May.  It will be available digitally, on CD and vinyl and is available to pre-order now from their Bandcamp store.

Only three songs are currently available to listen to and include "Stronger Than You Think" (5 Mar), their last single "Have A Little Faith" (26 Mar) and their current single "Sun And Rain" (16 Apr).

GeeJay are vocalist and songwriter Gina Jane (aka Georgina Tunbridge) and producer, saxophonist and keyboardist Jacob Lobo who met whilst both working as baristas in a coffee shop in Harringay (London). They started jamming on the coffee shop's old piano and soon developed their own sound fusing soul, funk and jazz with urban hip-hop. They are now a couple and had their first baby together in Jul '23 which curtailed their performing and recording activities but not their writing.

They released a debut EP "Thru Channel" followed by "City" in 2019. The same year they won Yamaha’s Funk It Up Competition which won them the opportunity to play at the Love Supreme Festival.

GeeJay [2024] - Have A Little Faith [Self Released]

It's two and a half years since we last featured GeeJay with their single "Mama, It's Ok to Cry" in Sep '21.

They didn't release any music in 2023 but they are back with their second single of 2024, both this month, following "Stronger Than You Think" (5 Mar) with a reggae tinged "Have A Little Faith" (26 Mar). We'll post both as we didn't seem to get around to posting the excellent first single even though we passed it on to Steve Aggasild who has been playing it on his radio for the the last few weeks.

Geejay [2021] - Mama, it's Ok to Cry [Self Released]

London duo Geejay (Georgina Tunbridge and Jacob Lobo) featured here last month (7 Aug) with their last single "Ordinary Girl", They're back with a new single "Mama It's Ok To Cry" released today (10 Sep 2021). I'm not sure this release is as strong as their last, but you can decide for yourself.

GeeJay are vocalist and songwriter Gina Jane (aka Georgina Tunbridge) and producer, saxophonist and keyboardist Jacob Lobo who met whilst both working as baristas in a coffee shop in Harringay (London). They started jamming on the coffer shop's old piano and soon developed their own sound fusing soul, funk and jazz with urban hip-hop.

Their latest single "Ordinary Girl" was released yesterday (6 Aug 2021). Whilst the writing credits for their last single "Stronger" are attributed (on Spotify at least) to Gina & Jacob, it sounds like a cover of the Amy Winehouse song "Stronger Than Me" to my ears!

They are scheduled to appear at The 100 Club in Oxford St with Atmosfear (a Brit-funk band from the 80s) on 26 Feb 2022.
