Raised in the Welsh border town of Chepstow, Bristol-based producer,
multi-instrumentalist, artist and songwriter Slowe
(aka Sophie Hawes) has been writing music and performing in bands since
her teens. During a hiatus from performing, she gravitated towards
self-sufficient production, turning her hand to an array of instruments
including flute, keys and guitar to recreate the styles of her favourite
producers.
Over the last year she has released five singles via Brighton's Tru
Thoughts label building up to her debut album, "Where The Mind Wanders", which includes all five singles plus five new songs.
The first "WLYTK" (Nov '22) is an avant-soul exploration of withheld feelings, followed
in Jan '23 with the retro-tinged slow jam "Superego", urban jazz-hop groove "Fix Me Up" (Mar '23) featuring Rachai and "Stay Right Here" (May '23) with the the final, psychedelia-tinged single "Calibrate" earlier this month which closes the album.
The news songs are "Feel" featuring local Bristolian musicians: Eli Jitsuto (Snazzback) on
guitar, Sam Fox (bass), Conor Harrington (drums) and Laurence Fazakerly
Buglass (keys), the J Dilla inspired instrumental "Inertia" featuring the sax of Oli Morris, "A Simple Act", "Solar" which aims to capture a 70s acoustic soul feel and finally the floaty
/ mellow "Lunar".
