A new offering from Brighton's Tru Thoughts label is a single "Sitting In The Dark" from Steven Bamidele which will be the opening track of his debut album "Summing Up" set for release on 15 Sep '23.
It follows singles "Kaleidoscope" feat. Scarlett Fae (Mar '23) and "Dark Sense Of Humour (Farfisa)" (May '23) which also feature on the album.
Steven is a London-based singer, songwriter, and producer born in Nigeria who spent his formative years in Suffolk, before moving to Brighton. Being of mixed race in a predominantly white county, he found solace and comfort in music as a creative output in his most displaced, introverted, and lonely moments.
He tells us that the album is a deeply personal project where he uses lyrical exploration as a form of self-therapy, often exploring themes of racial identity, family, and self-reflection. Tackling subjects that include his childhood, feelings of isolation, mental health struggles and his relationships with those close to him. It is written with an openness and integrity that allows the listener to share and understand his stories, while also seeing a reflection of their own.
