Steropar
is new label from The Wirral, so it is fitting that their first release is
from Liverpool's Edgar Jones. Initially he released a single "Torture" and now a full album "Reflections of a Soul Dimension". Oddly, the single isn't included on the album so a video of it is
included below.
The main man behind the label, which specialises in soul and jazz creating an authentic retro soul from the
60s/70s, is musician Steve Parry who has performed with the likes
of Corinne Bailey-Rae, Martha Reeves and Chrissie Hynde. Since 2014 he
has been musical arranger for The Voice UK.
Edgar Jones started his career in 1990 aged 20 playing bass for Ian
McChulloch post Echo & The Bunnymen. Later that year he formed the retro
beat group The Stairs who broke up in 1994 and then formed various
other bands and worked with the likes of Paul Weller and St Etienne. Curiously, what initially drew us to the album was the track "Walls Come Tumbling Down" which we guessed might have been a cover of Weller's The Style Council song from 1985 but it isn't.
His new album will be his seventh solo album. It will probably appeal to a
Mod audience.
