Carrie Baxter [2022] - Selfish [Idle Hands]

Jazz and soul singer Carrie Baxter was born in Waterford and moved to London in 2009 to study at the London School of Musical Theatre. She released he debut single "Lady" in Oct 2019 which garnered support from BBC Introducing, followed by "Love me Better" in Jan 2020.

Carrie has now racked up close to twenty singles and two albums with her latest offering being "Selfish" released on 25 Nov '22' which she co-wrote with James Berkeley who has recently featured on an album with edbl "edbl & Friends - James Berkeley".

Shann Aberdeen [2022] - Transition [Self Released]

Here we have yet another new artist from Toronto, Shann Aberdeen, who releases her first solo single following a single "Actin'" with Skip Waters in Sep 2021.

The single is "Transition", released on 1 Nov '22, which she states "symbolizes the encounter between two soulmates, who are ready to embark on their journeys together, in their new lifetime. Finding each other brought them one step closer to ascension, and this ballad follows them on their path of getting to know each other, and is meant to bring insight into how the bonding stage takes place as we move through life. Essentially the two are growing closer in love and light, and want to see where the possibilities can take them".

I found a live video of her performing a song titled "Home" which is so far unreleased.

Antonio Trinchera [2022] - The Tractor And The Child (Elbert Phillips Done Deal Remix) [A.MA Records]

Chicago House legend, and Frankie Knuckles' warm-up DJ, Elbert Phillips twiddles the knobs on the remix of "The Tractor and the Child" taken from Antonio Trinchera's recent album "Fauves" (22 Sep '22).

Elbert is a producer and remixer who has worked with Josh Milan, Ursula Rucker, Andre Espeut, Shamrock Guitor, Carla Prather, Terrene and Nimbus Sextet for Acid Jazz Records in London and founded his own label 'Entegrity Music' in 2018. 

He produces the 'Monthly Statement' show for UK station Soul-Power Radio and was a contributing editor to the specialist House Music publication '5 Magazine'. 

I would describe "The Tractor And The Child" as instrumental jazz-house and is released on Friday (2 Dec '22). Trinchera's original version has been included for comparison, which stands up in it's own right.

Stereonoon [2022] - Places we can go hide [Digital Noises] (Full Album)

Stereonoon is an Italian nu soul / nu jazz collective conceived by vocalist  Anna Polinari from Verona and multi-instrumentalist Max Tozzi from Milan during the first Covid lockdown and have since expanded to include drummer Giacomo Ganzerli from Emilia Romagna, jazz pianist Riccardo Barba from Brescia with other guest musicians drafted in as needed.

Their debut single was a neo soul rendition of Joe Jackson's "Stepping Out" in Jul 2020 which they followed with a six track EP "Yeah. And Stuff" in Mar '21. Two singles have subsequently been released, "Matter of Geography" (May '22) and "Everyone Says" (Jul '22), which are both included on their debut album "Places we can go hide" released last Friday (25 Nov '22). All songs appear to have been penned by Anna and Max.

Carmy Love [2022] - In The Morning [Big A.C #BIGAC021]

Carmy Love is from North West London and was a member of acid jazz group from London New Street Adventure (NSA) (of which Big AC founder Nick Corbin was also a member). Prior to that she recorded on 'Just Dance' with Cool Million in 2010 on their 'Back For More' album.

At the end of Sep 2022 Big A.C digitally released her second single "Together Again" which was to be the B side of a forthcoming 7" vinyl release.

The A side has now been announced and will be "In The Morning" which is digitally released this Friday (2 Dec) which you can pre-save with the 7" vinyl available to pre-order shortly from Big AC Records.

If you cast your mind back to March 2021 and Carmy's debut single on Big A.C with "Thinkin' Of You" which was followed by "Rebel" and both were paired for a vinyl release on 28 May 2021. We said at the time that you should snap it up whilst it was available as it would soar in price once sold out and right enough, having just checked Discogs, they are selling for an average of £100 with only five available for sale. In actual fact Big AC have informed that the single was sold out on pre-release. Here at SoulStrutter we gave it a 9.5, rating which is virtually unheard of for new material, it was/is that good, so don't say we didn't warn you.

Fortunately, for those who missed it first time around, Big A.C Records has pressed up another 500 white vinyl copies.

To remind you of the B side "Together Again" it has been included below. The new song "In The Morning" is more retro style soul in the southern soul mould, which the label describes Ann Peebles would be proud of, so who are we to contradict?
