Shirley Jones is of course best know an the lead singer of
The Jones Girls alongside her sisters Brenda and Valorie (sadly both
now departed - a tribute to Brenda by John Leech and Gary Van Den Bussche). They were also utilised extensively by Gamble & Huff at
Philadelphia International as backing singers and, prior to joining the label, were backing singers for Diana Ross.
When the group disbanded in 1984 she was offered a solo contract with the
label and her first single "Do You Get Enough Love" was a US R&B #1 (video below) although unfortunately it didn't bother the
Billboard Hot 100. She released only another two singles and one album
("Always In The Mood") with the label, all in 1986. she then didn't appear on record until
1994 and has had sporadic releases since the turn of the century.
She released a new single last week (27 oct 2021) "Soul Steppin'" and is working on an album dedicated to her sisters "In Loving Tribute" due next year.
