I came across this and just had to post it. A remastering and digital
reissue (23 Jul 2021) of the wonderful Charlie Mitchell's 1973 Janus single "Love Don't Come Easy". The official A side "After Hours", written by J.R. Bailey and Ken Williams, is excellent as well!
J.R. Bailey released it the year before on Toy Records in
1972 which you can pick up at a fraction of the price of Mitchell's
rarer version.
"Love Don't Come Easy" is co-written by Main Ingredient's Tony Silvester with Polly Nile.
Early 70s sweet/modern soul. Two quality sides of modern soul
'niceness'! They don't come much better than this!
This is the only listed release for Charlie Mitchell which was an alias
used by Vic Marcel who released around five singles on RCA
between 1969-1973, having released an earlier 45 on DonBut in 1966.
Apparently he was on a five year contract with RCA but with the lack of
success, owing to what he felt was the lack of promotion he received from RCA, he got disillusioned with
the music industry and quit. I suspect the change of name was because he
was moonlighting from RCA? The Janus release was his last recording.
It's a shame as here's a few more of his better sides on RCA as Vic Marcel: "Won’t You Come And Fly With Me", "You Still Got Me", "I Tried", "Funky Lover".
