Snoh Aalegra [2021] - Lost You [Artium Recordings]

We're back on that 'international/global' soul theme once again. Snoh Aalegra was born in Sweden to Iranian (Persian) parents and now lives in L.A. after spending time in London.

She released her debut album "Feels" in 2017 as Snoh Aalegra but was signed to Sony, Sweden, at the age of 13 in 2001, but nothing was released. It was 2009 when she released her first single "Hit And Run" as Sheri and an album soon followed ("First Sign") which included an up-tempo cover of Sade's "Smooth Operator".

In 2014 she changed her name to Snoh Nowrozi, later adding Aalegra to avoid confusion with another artist named Snoh, and recorded with Common and became a protégé of Prince.

Her second album "Ugh, Those Feels Again" was released in 2019 and did well, reaching #6 US R&B and #73 on Billboard albums chart. The featured single (released yesterday 21 Jun 2021) is taken from her third album "Temporary Highs In The Violet Sky" which is scheduled for release on 9 Jul 2021.

Last year she featured on a track called "You Save Me" with Alicia Keys on Keys' album "Alicia" which she co-wrote with Keys, and is rather nice so I've included it here.

I have to admit that I've not really listened to this artist before and am very pleasantly surprised by what I hear so have included a Tiny Desk session which features tracks from her previous albums "Love Like That", "I Want You Around", "Whoa", "Fool For You" (from "Feels") and "Find Someone Like You". "I Want You Around" and "Whoa" reached #1 and #2 US Adult R&B respectively in 2019.
