DJ $crilla & Wesley Bright [2022] - Gonna Be Alright [PWR For The People]

After a couple of releases on Colemine already this year and his debut album "Must Be Love" in Feb, Wesley Bright is back with a new single  "Gonna Be Alright" featuring a rap from DJ $crilla who actually gets lead billing on the label. It's a contemporary mid-tempo stepper but with an old school feel which is difficult to pigeon-hole and I suspect some may take out the tape splicer to remove the 30 second rap.

Wesley Bright [2022] - Must Be The Love [West One Music] (Full Album)

Following a couple of singles released on Colemine already in 2022, Wesley Bright released his debut solo album "Must Be The Love" on Friday (14 Feb 2022) which follows his debut five track EP "What I Want" last May which contained the killer cut "Look At Me".

The album opens with the title track "Must Be The Love" (a stomping neo Northern Soul tune) and other highlights include "Oh, Think About It" another the NS crew will appreciate along with "Is It True" and "Raindrops" (on the which the intro reminds me a little of "My World Is Empty Without You" (Supremes)). The better mellower tracks are "I Lost A Lover" and "Tell Me Again".

Wesley Bright [2021] - What I Want [Mayhem Music] (Full EP)

Wesley Bright (Brent Wesley) from Akron, OH, released a solo five track EP on 28 Apr 2021 without The Honeytones (or at least without credits - it may well be them supporting him).

Three of the five tracks are retro southern soul style ballads with the last track a more funky affair and the lead track 'Stick Together' is a mid-tempo crossover style tune.

The top tracks for me are 'Look At Me', 'Someone Who Really Loves Me' and 'Stick Together', although they are all pretty good, I'm even warming to the funky tune 'We're Back' now I've listened to it a few times!

Wesley emerged around 2012 in a group named Wesley Bright & The Hi-Lites who released three singles between 2012-15. Whether they changed their name or the backing group changed, I don't known, but in 2018 it was Wesley Bright & The Honeytones who released a 45 on Colemine, the A side 'Happiness' has a neo Northern Soul style sound. More recently he featured on a reggae single with a group called The Soul Chance on a track titled 'Who Could It Be?'.
