As it's still pretty dire on the new release front I'll continue trawling
the catalogue of Cadet records.
"Just As Long As We're In Love" is a song written by Terry Callier with his writing partner Larry
Wade released on his debut Cadet album "Color Of Love" (1972). It was released as a single by The Dells.
The first two singles released by Terry Callier are highly
regarded in Northern / Modern Soul circles in the UK.
Both self-written and released on Cadet and both failed to chart even on
US R&B chart. The first "Look At Me Now" was the flip side to "You Goin' Miss Your Candy Man" in 1968 followed
by "Ordinary Joe" in 1972 which was actually recorded first by Jerry Butler on his 1970
album "You And Me".
His third single in 1973 is a much overlooked class double-sider
"I Just Can't Help Myself (I Don't Want Nobody Else)" c/w "Get Closer To You" on Cadet #5697.
Callier was born and bred in Chicago and grew up with Curtis Mayfield,
Jerry Butler and Major Lance. He released his first album on 1966 and went
on to release around sixteen albums in his career up to his death in 2012
aged 67 with the last being released in 2009.
He only troubled the charts on one occasion with "Sign Of The Times" from his 1979 album "Turn You To Love" which reached 78 on US R&B chart.

Taken from his 1972 album 'Occasional Rain'. This was a huge tune which still gets plays today. Jerry Butler also did a version on his 1970 album 'You And Me' (see below).
Callier hailed from Chicago and was friends with some of Chicago's greats Curtis Mayfield, Jerry Butler and Major Lance. He debuted with 'Look At Me Now'.
He released 3 critically acclaimed albums 'Occasional Rain' 1972, 'What Color Is Love ' and 'I Just Can't Help Myself' 1974 for Cadet but were not successful commercially and he was released from Cadet. He released another 2 albums on Elektra 'Fire On Ice' 1977 and 'Turn You To Love' 1978.
He continued to perform until 1983 when he retired from music. In the late 80s his music was 'discovered' by DJ's in the UK.
He returned to music and started recording again in the late 90s and has released 5 albums since 1998.
Callier only release 3 45s on Cadet, all of them have been played and in demand on the Northern scene.
