Debbie Taylor - Discography


I had the privilege of seeing Debbie Taylor (now known as Maydie Myles) in her first and only live UK appearance at the Wilton (Wakefield) in Nov 2013.  There are 6 video clips I recorded and posted on my YouTube channel.  Karl 'Chalky' White has also posted some on his channel.  The eagle eyed amongst you may spot Mick Talbot of The Style Council on keyboards!

There seems to be 2 versions of this CD, one is an identical 9 track version of her first album on Today and the other is a extended 20 track (perhaps Deluxe) version which also includes her 2 Decca 45s, her unreleased 'All That I Have' and all her GWP releases.

If you want to listen all in one go then someone has uploaded the complete CD on YouTube (unless he's 'doctored' the image and included her earliar material .. as I can't find any reference to this release?)

This 1975 45 is probably her finest with 2 brilliant sides. The A side 'I Don't Wanna Leave You' is one of the best deep soul records you will find along with a great modern soul tune 'Just Don't Pay' on the flip.

This is a previously unissued single she recorded with The Hesitations, produced by Larry Saunders.  It originally came out as an album track on GWP NYC TCB on Kent in 2005 who then released it on a vinyl 45 coupled with the fantastic Eddie Parker - But If You Must Go on their Deep Soul imprint in 2016.

Eddie Parker [1976] - But If You Must Go / I Need A True Love [MAM 803]


OK, we're now more or less up to date with new releases from the last few months, so time to look at some quality oldies - in this instance a few deep soul offerings.  This track was only previously available via the original 1976 pressing on MAM/Miko with 'I Need A True Love' on the flip and would set you back around £2,000 ... if you could even find one!

 This side was previously released on Triple 'B' (and also Googa-Mooga in France) with 'Crying Clown' on the flip in 1968.  It is thought that the 1976 release is a slightly different version ... but personally I can't tell much difference.

Those lovely people at Ace/Kent in the UK included 'But If I Must Go'  in their Jack Ashford: Just Productions 24 track compilation CD in 2016.


They then issued it on their Deep Soul imprint on vinyl 45, flipped with the wonderful Debbie Taylor & The Hesitations - 'All That I Have'.

(Note: There is already a post of Debbie Taylor singing this live in 2017).

This track lay unissued until 2005 when it first appeared on Kent compilation 'GWP-NYC-TBC' compilation'. I note that it was co-written by Larry Saunders, an underrated artist who released some quality sides of his own which I am sure to feature at some point.

Debbie Taylor Live @ Wilton 9th November 2013

Known to soul aficionados over the years by the name of Debbie Taylor but now goes by the name of Maydie Myles. What a great lady and a true performer.  She did two sets, the first kicked off with probably her best know track on the Northern Soul circuit 'Don't Nobody Mess With My Baby' released in 1970 on GWP Grapevine #202. She followed this with 'Never Gonna Let Him Know' GWP-501 1969, 'Check Yourself', Decca #32259 1968, the previously unreleased ' All That I Have' until issued on a Kent CD 'GWP NYC TPB' in 2005 in the UK and finished the first set with 'Don't Let It End' and the flip side 'How Long Can It Last' issued in 1969 on GWP-510.

The second set opened with her modern soul classic from 1975 'Just Don't Pay' which was on the flip of 'I Don't Wanna Leave You'.
