In a world of so much auto-tuned and gimmicky, sampled and beats driven pop/R&B music (which won't stand the test of time and we immediately bin as soon as we hear the 'artificialness' as it has no place in real soul music as far as we're concerned),
it's refreshing to hear a pure voice. So when we heard the new single
"clementine" from CJ Monét (Carly Monet Judd) from the small town
of Graham, NC, our ears pricked up. The self-written song is stripped
back so all you can hear is her soulful vocals with keys in the
background.
CJ states that her musical influences include Marvin Gaye, The
Temptations, Erykah Badu, Stevie Nicks and Carole King. Her songs
reflect her life experiences with honest, heartfelt and authentic
lyrics about love and heartbreak with soulful melodies incorporating
elements of hip-hop, jazz, indie.
She arrived in Nov 2019 and this is her seventh single which she adds
to an EP "Honeycomb" (Dec '19) and full album "The Garden" (Aug '22).
