Vanessia Mathis [2022] - Angel in Disguise [Daxwood Publishing]

This stunning soulful ballad "Angel in Disguise" by Vanessia Mathis (Vanessia Mathis Holland) was actually first released on a compilation "Daxwood Soul II" in Nov 2010 by/as Xxception To Rule and then on their first, and only, album "Then And Now" in 2011 and was posted here in Apr 2020.

Xxception To Rule were, I believe, a female duo (as only two pictured on the cover of their album) of which Vanessia Mathis was a member. Their album "Then And Now" was released on CD on 1 Sep 2011 and was sold out by 27 Sep and at the time of posting I felt that the songs were recorded much earlier, probably from the 80s. It's not listed on Discogs but is still available digitally on Amazon as is the "Daxwood Soul II" compilation along with "Daxwood Soul" which features another song by them "Call Me"

After tracking down Daxwood's facebook it transpires that they are reissuing the song due to the popularity of it in the UK and now sharing it with the US market. They have dedicated the release to the late Eldridge McMillan who co-wrote and co-produced the song with Vanessia Mathis in 1981 as well as playing on keys. The only other credit I can find for him was writing a song "Listen To Your Heart Beat" for The Softones in 1986.

Daxwood is also dedicating the release to well know UK soul DJ Mick O'Donnell (Soul Discovery) who included yet another of their tracks on his "Soul Discovery With Mick O'Donnell" compilation CD in 2009.

Vanessia Mathis opened for artists such as Dazz Band, Charlie Wilson, Slave, Kurtis Blow, Men at Large, Doug E. Fresh, Jasmine Guy, Kool Moe Dee and many others She has performed with many bands and groups such as Xxception to The Rule and is currently touring and performing with The Throwback Collaboration Band based in North Carolina. She has many compositions in her portfolio and Daxwood Records, run by Doyle Wood based in Fayetteville, NC, who have been recording Beach, R&B, Soul and Country since 1982, has created a platform for her music to be heard and discovered once again. 

The only other solo recording I can find for Vanessia is "Our Own Home Town" released in  2015 as Vanessia Mathis Holland and featuring on a song by. Currie Wayne Clayton Jr "I Just Need to Know" Jan 2022 which are both pop/country songs, but make no mistake the new/reissued single is incredible!

The song does not currently appear to be available on Amazon.
